Default Marking Ti rods for removal

This is going to sound really dumb but I want to ask. I am disassembling my LS7 and I want to mark the rods and caps to keep them together and oriented. Old days I would use machinists stamps to gently stamp a number on each half of the cap. Can I or should I do that to these rods? Or is there another method I should be using? GM does not specify.

Thanks!

I mark mine w/masking tape and sharpie pen, that way on reassembly I double check myself to make sure what came out is going back in the same place.
No question is a dumb question, unless its one you don't ask(and wish you did). $.02

I would use a grease pen or just bag the matching components individually.
Be sure not to use any chlorinated cleaners (i.e. brake cleaner) on the Titanium parts.
Believe it or not, doing so can cause premature stress fractures.

Just use an vibrating etcher. Works well, no impact, always have the stamp on it.

My rods had a etching for each rod (rod and end cap) so it was easy. Had it not have that, I would have done it exactly like you described.

Sharpie makes some nice metallic pens that work well.

Do not use a stamp/hammer, you can move the material around from th impact believe it or not. My vote is for a vibrating etcher also. This is permanent.

If you can avoid it DO NOT stamp or etch Ti. It is an extremely notch sensitive metal. It is ALWAYS preferable to use a non destructive marking method such as a sharpie, tape, grease marker, etc.

If you do happen to nick or scratch a Ti rod do your best to "polish" it out with a very fine abrasive and then clean thoroughly.
