Default Just bought a LT1 Pullout dry sump Z51 Engine

It’s going in my 69 Camaro PT car with full Art Morrison suspension. Where do I start? I’m reading about engine packages with HP up to 650 N/A with heads and cam.

Engine package is complete with computer.

What are your suggestions?

It should be getting pulled out of the vette in the next week or two.

I see quite a bit of info out there from shops but not a lot of info coming from folks here.

So far I need a power steering set up from S&P, T56 Bell housing from GM part #19329620. S&P is making headers too. I’ll probably just buy flanges so we can make a custom set of headers.

We will have to make engine mounts which is fine since we can move the engine back 1.5 inches over where a LS7 sat in the engine bay. The car is set up with a peterson tank where the pass side cowl dog house was.

If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay ballpark for the motor/ecu?

I glad to see that GM has put out a bell housing allowing the use of the T-56 with the LT1. May make it a viable option for my RX-7.

Is there something different about the Gen V crank, block face, pilot depth or otherwise that change it from Gen II / IV?

Bolt pattern might be different on the back of the block to the bellhousing. The C7 is a 7spd tremec instead of the 6. Starter could also be in a slightly different location as well.

Bellhousing is definitely different. Top bolt in doghouse is offset due to injection pump. Others are in the correct locations. The crank is 8 bolt, so flywheel is different from early LS style, but won't be a big deal to source.

I can’t say but you can get a crate engine for 7-8k.

I just read the Car & Driver magazine article about the long-term evaluation of the C7. They had the motor replaced under warranty. There were burs around a bearing from machining. There was also a metal sliver from the oil filter’s threads. They are known defects leading to the engine's replacement.

I mention this as something to check for.

The devil is in the details isn't it? A few small slivers of metal and your motor is gone...

The engine I have has 8k miles on it. My plan is to mock everything up, push the engine back as far as I can in the Art Morrison chassis, make engine mounts/reconfigure the trans mount to work with the T56. After all that is done and everything fits in the trans tunnel I’ll be done with the engine for a while.

While the car is getting paint prep I need to find a shop and send the engine off. I’m doing road racing, track days and autocross with the car so 650 HP is more than enough power. To stay within budget I’d like to keep the stock cubic inch but have everything blueprinted. Heads & cam. Something similar to the Katech stage 2 kit. Hopefully it will be much cheaper since I’ll be shipping a crate engine to them with harness & computer.
