Default NY roadtrip

2015 was my first time to ls fest. I had the car done just in time last yr but didn't make it because of such short notice for co driver.

This year with my dad as co driver I finally made the 1300 mile round trip from New York. The interstate was boring and we were surprised to not find a caravan of LS powered cars making the trip down!

We camped at beech bend park. something I would highly recommend to future ls fest spectators. The more the merrier, and they were cool with fires and byob in the park.

As for Holley LS Fest in itself the event lived up to expectations. This is the first time I have seen a full 1/4 mile dragstrip in person, and to see cars averaging about 11 second passes was quite exciting. The few that were hitting 6's trapping over 170mph in the quarter were nuts, as well as the fun of seeing road course cars take a stab at dragracing.

It was my dad's first time seeing drifting so that was exciting, unfortunately the crowd just was not that into it. I was happy to see f-bodys running autocross. We missed the 3s, dyno and engine swap challenges unfortunately because we didn't know where the events were located.

And now picture time

who remembers this orange blazer

road cars on a drag track

paddock

IMO best of show

ITB LS!

twin engine

LSX ****** broke on day one

Constructive criticism:
1 at the ticket booth pamphlet style maps and event planners need to be available. Being our first time we didn't know where or when to go see the events, and a map and schedule would have made the experience that much better.
2 the holley *title sponsor* tent had great pricing ($10/ shirt) but they ran out of all the 2015 shirts on saturday afternoon. And then to have old 2014 shirts on hand to sell at full price, that was a joke. Holley needs to e prepared for the full three day event in the future.
3 the swap meet needs help. only three sellers were there saturday, I think inviting vendors to bring scratch and dent/ discontinued items to sell off would help boost participation. The swap meet has great potential being that this is a engine platform based national event.

Really, what's the chances of two respray orange s10 blazers at one event haha. The wheelstander really got chewed out by the announcer for busting the oil pan causing a full length track shutdown / cleanup. I felt bad for the guy, until i saw him in the pits and he was proud to have stayed in it.

Haven't been on here in a while, so coming late into the discussion. I had a great time, was blown away by the scale of the event and something to do for every flavor of enthusiast (show, drag, autocross, etc). I admit that I was a drift hater prior to the event, my disgust for the genre of racing or whatever you call it was pretty well summed up by that Robert Downey Jr. rolleyes picture that goes around facebook. But then... I was standing at the Holley trailer when some guys came out for solo practice laps and I was totally entranced, found myself cheering for guys making solo passes, wtf. I don't think I'd participate, but I have a new fondness for watching it in person. Guess it's kind of like hockey for me now...

Enjoyed catching up with Andrew and getting to cruise in his Cougar, that thing is so sweet! Was also nice to talk to an extremely sharp tuner in Rick Crawford.

Enjoyed being in Bowling Green again. Food, cruising, people gathered in parking lots. I was out Friday night, but ran out of steam and didn't get out Saturday.

As far as participating, I enjoyed making track passes and racing the true street class. I'm fairly certain the cruise was MUCH longer than 30 miles, but was no problem. Lot of neat cars and a very tight finish in the 10.0 index. Happy to say I won something at the track as well as some shenanigans away from the track. Can't wait to go back next year!

Meant to post here that the January 2016 issue of Fastest Street Car magazine has LS Fest coverage, and Feb 2016 issue of Super Chevy. Both of which just came out in last week or so. Tons of pictures in each.
