Default Question about rear ends

I was talking to my dad about getting a rear end, he's old school, see sig for his car. i was explaining to him that the new rear ends and how our cars dont use the old leaf strings and have the perches on them for the shocks and the springs

we are really crafty and like to fabricate things to save money. so my question is that if i take the perches off my stock rear end, can i weld them and put them on an old 8.5" rear or an older 12 bolt that wasnt specifically designed for an fbody?

Yes, you have to accomodate the perches and the torque arm. There are guys on the board who have done it.

ah okay, so it is possible, you just have to swap over all the necessary mounts onto the old-style rear.
