Default 2002 auto vs 2010 auto questions???

my buddy has an 02 ss a4 stock all we did was nitto drag radials, 4.10 gears, 4000 stall converter and cat-back exhaust and got a 7.31 in the 1/8th..... then with a 100hp dry shot he got a 6.88 in the 1/8..... my question is the 4l60e gear ratios are 1st=3.06 2nd=1.75 3rd=1.00 4th=.70 and the gl80 which will be the 6 speed auto in the 2010 ss its ratios are 1st=4.03 2nd=2.36 3rd=1.53 4th=1.15 5th=.85 6th=.67 my question the first gear is way taller by 1.0 on the 6 speed auto so with 4.10 in the rear that thing should take off like a rocket right??? espically with a stall and a small shot of nitrous right? i mean that thing would be geared like a dump truck,..... could we see a gear and stall ONLY car get in the 6's in the 1/8th??? what are yalls thoughts???

6L80 actually and yes, with 4.10 gears it will jump, even with the 3.27s it will jump because that 1st gear is so steep.
There is an outside chance that a geared/stalled/drag radialed 2010 SS could possibly see 6s in the 1/8th but do keep in mind that even though it's making a lot more power it's also notably heavier than the 2002 as well.

3.06 x 4.10 = 12.55 overall

4.03 x 3.27 = 13.18 overall

but remember that the tires are 3" taller, so that lessens the ratio by 10%, so the 3.27's would be more like a 2.94 rear compared to the older car...

4.03 x 2.94 = 11.85 overall, or like an older car with 3.90's... also think about traction with all that torque and all that gear...

True, but he was also asking about the new car with a stall and 4.10s as well (ie: 4.03 x 4.10).

Well the inner diameter will be 3" taller (20" wheels versus 17" or even 16" wheels) but the overall diameter likely won't be, I'm betting that it's still going to be in the 26" - 27" range so it won't decrease the ratio by all that much.

I think the new camaro will only hold 3.9-something rear gears.

245/50x16 to 245x50x19 = 3" taller

4th gen:
245/50x16 = 25.65" tall
275/40x17 = 25.66" tall
5th gen:
245/50x19 = 28.65" tall
245/45x20 = 28.68" tall
275/40x20 = 28.66" tall

Oh ok, I didn't realize they were still using 40-50 series sidewalls with the bigger diameters. Normally they drop them down to 30-35 series when they go to 19s or 20s.
This is good news for those wanting to put their 26" tall drag radials on the new car (if they fit)...better traction and MUCH better gearing from a simple wheel/tire swap. Providing that the PCM/TCM/TC/ABS allow it of course LOL.
