cam for carb'd 6.0
Just need some advice on a good lopey cam. Will mostly just drive it around. But will hammer on it from time to time. So would like good midrange power and also pull decent up top also. Hope I made sense. Thanks guys.

there was some disc. about lobe sep. between FI and carb'ed engines, never saw any real tests to show what works best-i think its still in its infant stage relating to carbs, as far as actually doing a lot of testing-the carb'ed LS engines need a better signal than the FI engines, i would think a cam ground to promote that would help-i have talked to a couple diff grinders, they seem to have diff opinions on it, some think 110-112 is better suited, others think more in the 114-116 range, of course based on comp ratio
having said all that bull s@#%t, i am now running the Pat Perf 225/229, 580/590 cam on a 114+4, which works pretty good, got it as part of their head/cam package, idles around 800 rpm's, has pretty good low end, have buzzed it to 7k before, sounds good at idle-i run a d1sc procharger so not sure how it would run w/o(i have a 6.0 engine)
i had a z06 cam it it orig, it ran good also-so many choices
there have been some mag articles where they tried diff cams in the past with mixed results-most of the tech is with FI, but you could drop a dime on some of the cam grinders and see what they think
aside from the procharger, your combo is close to mine, so something in the 114 range might be best, your comp ratio is low, could help build cyl pres.
but watch your valve/piston clear.

I see alot of guys running really big cams in these things w/o having p to v issues. Seems like these engines like big cams also. But when it comes to the carb setup no one is quite as sure as they r with the efi. Guess Ill start calling around and see what response i get.

I think that'll be a good choice. The Victor JR intakes on these things are considered short intake runners compared to the EFI intakes. The thing is the intake really isnt made for below 3000rpms so you might as well go with a bigger cam anyway. Mine his like a freight train at 4000rpm and pulls hard all they way to the top (6800 for now, will be 7000)

That Vic Jr, msd combo only comes with pills for the control box. So I was thinking of getting the GMPP intake and the msd ls control box instead. More options for timing. Is the GM intake any better? Or any worse?

Also Shawn, what mounts, headers did you use? Summit has a kit that has the hooker headers, trans dapt motor mounts and a milodon pan/pickup. Any idea how all this stuff actually fits?

Buy them separate. Dont buy the kit. Buy the Victor JR intake, and the MSD 6010 box separate. Thats what i did. The GMMP intake is heaver and about a half inch shorter but really not major difference.
I used ATS plates and polyurethane SBC mounts. I used 327 frame stands on my K member. I would reccomend the hooker mounts though as i dinged my hooker headers for extra clearence of the pitman arm.
Does the mildon pan come with a filter on it? I had to run a remote filter with the Moroso pan which wasnt mentioned in their description. I'm not sure about the transdapt mounts.

Im not sure about the filter on the pan. Good idea. Wouldnt have thought about it. I'm lost on the 327 frame stands. Is that something I'm gonna need?

Call Jeff at Thunder Racing. I just had that same exact conversation regarding my 6.0 Carb setup in my 69 Camaro. He knows his SH*T when it comes to Carb combos. I'm just looking for a little more out of my current combo. But I can tell you that my current cam is very mild and can be driven daily and still returned 18mpg in my setup. I have driven my Camaro on numerous 200 miles trips.

So GONE, I'm kinda new to the whole lsx engine thing but im guessing that u have an ls2? What comp ratio do u have? Those r impressive #'s. Also is there anything I'm gonna need to make the th350 bolt up? New flywheel, spacers etc?

My motor is a LS2 base. My comp. is about 11 to 1 and I run it on 93 octane. The turbo 350 should bolt up with no problems. You just have to make sure that you have your converter made for a LS application or you will have to use a flywheel spacer to mate up the flexplate and the converter.

i have a futral cam back from 2005. this thing makes power, though it hasnt been on a dyno in its current state.
235 237 599 602 112+2. may not be the biggest or baddest dyno queen, but it gets me down the track faster than cams advertized larger. anything over 6400 rpm shift point, it will pick up a mph each 100 rpm. i shift it at 6900, thought its been its best mph shifting at 7100 a couple of times.
but if you want a big lope-y cam. this isnt for you. its not very radical at idle at all.
