New personal record but I got kicked out
A few buddies and I took our cars down to Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, WI for one last time before we put our cars away for the winter. This was my first time racing at GLD, but I had heard that the track prep was much better than where I usually race, and the rumors were true. All 3 of us got teched in, but were given warnings that if we go faster than 11.5 we were going to get kicked out. All 3 of the cars we brought to the track have been in the 10's before so we knew we were going to be making some 1/8 mile passes and hitting the brakes. The cars we brought were a 67 Nova with a nearly stock 6.0L with a 175 shot of juice. An AWD GMC Typhoon powered by a 6.0L w/ a Kenne Bell blower. And my NA 413 cid Camaro.
My previous best time was a 10.69 with a 1.43 60' time. On my first pass I just wanted to get a feel for how the track was hooking, and I pulled a 1.44 60' time and I didn't even flash the coverter to its potential. On the second pass I decided to give it all it had and run out the 1/8th mile. I ended up hooking perfectly and cut a 1.39 60' time with a 6.700 @ 101mph in the 1/8th. This was surely a 10.5 pass but I didn't want to get booted so I crammed the brakes just in time to run a 11.7 at 70mph haha. I pulled a couple more 1.39 60' times, but couldn't get better than 6.700 in the 8th. Once my friends and I decided we had enough racing for the day, we decided to make full passes and see if we would get kicked out. The Typhoon wnet 10.9, the Nova went 10.6, and I went 10.6. As I drove up to the booth to get my time slip the guy stuck his head in my car and started lecturing me about all of the safety equip. I was missing. He wrote on my slip that I needed a fire jacket, harnesses, and a roll bar before they would ever let me make another pass there.
I already have everyhting I need to pass tech at my house, I just haven't had it installed yet. Anyways, the track hooked awesome and I couldn't think of a better way to end my racing season. Next year I plan on some weight reduction and a 200 shot. I am thinking the 6 pt. might not cut it. Here are a few picks from the day.
