Which Blower for Road Racing?
Im building a road race 69 camaro.. nothing too serious as it will have a radio and a/c...
Im shooting for 700rwhp.
I know a n/a engine would be ideal for road racing but its gonna be tough to get 700rwhp using an ls7. Im set on that power goal because it wont be a 100% dedicated road race car. It will also see the drag strip.
With a forged 402, what blower is best for road racing... in terms of heat, reliability, mounting, etc.

thats pretty much wat im looking at... d1, f1 or a 2.8 kenne bell..
any arguments for or against?
procharger is prolly better for traction since you dont have that crazy torque down low.. just gotta worry about mounting it.

Check out jbsblownc5. He is always road racing and carving up the canyons.
I believe he has an ECS Novi 2000 and about 780rwhp.
Looks pretty fun!

i would get a procharger b4 a novi just because they r pretty much the same thing and there are more prochargers out there on ls motors... novi seems like a ford thing..
nevertheless ill take that as a procharger vote. thanks.
seems sensible since a roots/twinscrew sits on top of the motor and thus more susceptible to heatsoak... but all oem stuff is roots style.. hmmmm

I would also vote for a medium-large centri with a big front mount intercooler. The ls7 will have plenty of torque down low and the big centri will just make the motor seem to expand with rpm, and the a2a FMIC will keep your IAT's a lot more stable than an a2w setup would on the road course where you are either on the gas or hard on the brakes.
Check out the Vortech T-trim and YSi setups too. For road racing I would prefer a engine-lubed setup over a self contained, since you'll be running the engine oil through a cooler, right? The YSi will easily get you into the 7xxrwhp range, where the t-trim would top out right around 7xx.

thanks for the reply. Im actually planning on a forged and stroked ls2 since it has a little more meat than an ls7. I just mentioned ls7 because if I were to go n/a trying to reach 700 rwhp, that would be the way to go.
i would absolutely run an intercooler. gotta keep thing as cool as possible on a road course car. ill be running a dry sump system with an oil cooler. i'll look into vortech. thanks. anybody running a vortech on an ls? dont see many around. all prochargers.

They're around, especially on the Vettes. His name notwithstanding, check out stevieturbo. His ls/Vortech YSi combo is hitting something like 170 in the standing mile, 10.04@149 or something in the quarter. The A&A Vette setup, IIRC uses a Vortech and is stout. Mine current setup is a 383/Vortech/FMIC combo but it's a SBC and not in an F-bod 632rwhp@11.7# though.

Thanks guys. I hope you dont think any less of me but I pictured myself naked on top of that F1 402.
Anybody have any comments on the procharged being self sustained vs the vortech tapping into the pan?
