My Dealer Told Me Something Suspicious...
Does it say in our GXP owners manual (which I don't have) that we should have a 4-wheel alignment twice a year? My rear tires were 1 degree out of alignment which cause some pretty drastic damage to my tires and they're not covering anything because there are 17k miles on the car and it was out of alignment. Even though all of my oil changes have been at this dealer and no one noticed it before.

Nah, don,t do it yet, wait 2 more years, then the GXP will be out and you wont be kicking yourself in the *** for not waiting. Go to Discount tire, get some good tires and an alignment, do the alignment every 12K miles and then if they wear badly, shoot the dealer!

Same thing happened to me. I got a 08 GXP. I bought it with 16000 miles on it. At 18000 miles I had it on my car hoist at work and noticed both rear tires were worn down to the cords. The front tires were cupped on the outside edges very badly. This caused a very noisey ride at highway speeds. So I bought 4 Goodyear F1's from Tirerack.com for like around 750 bucks. The new tires made a huge difference. I then took the car to the dealer to have an alignment done, and guess what, off by 1 degree. Im running 30 psi in the Goodyears now. I have put 5000 miles on it since then and the tires look brand new.

that's whatcha get for having front tires different sizes than the rears... can't do a proper rotation....
only 17,000 miles tho is excessive... could be the nature of the beast, or you're just hard on it...
I got 59,000 miles outta my stock goodyear rsa's.....

i just had my rear tires replaced under warrenty.. your dealer is trying to screw you.. fight it b/c if you cant see it in the manual and u were never told then u can fight this all the way to gm..
I never knew this as well and noticed my handling went to crap. looked at my rear tires (impala ss by the way) and saw the inner tread was almost gone and i rotate the tires every 6000 miles. I took it to the dealer and tiold him to take the car home with him to see how bad the handling was and he came back saying it was the scariest thing he has ever driven.. They got me 2 new tires to replace the the wore out ones all under warrenty..
all i got to say is keep fighting it

Well I guess your lucky for the new tires? I have 29,300 on mine, I went to discount tire and got the tire certs. That means I get them balanced and rotated every 6K miles, since new,( I bought the car with 5300 miles, I then bought the extended warranty on the tires from Discount Tire @ 6K miles, which means they will fix them/or replace them and balance them for free, till the tread wears out). I love Discount Tire!!!

Well your dealer is right, GXPs likely do need twice yearly alignments. I get mine done three times a year and I'm off by up to -2 on the backs. Has to do with the stagger I think.
On the other hand your dealer is wrong, nowhere does GM say you need to do twice yearly alignments to keep in contact with warranty, challenge him to prove it elsewhere.
Actually I'd just find a dealer that doesn't try to scam you and have the car taken there. Remember you can cross lines for warranty work. So if the Pontiac dealer is a scumbag take to the Chevy Dealer, the Buick Dealer or hell even the Saturn dealer. I took mine to a GMC Dealer for warranty work. The way I saw it the GMC techs had never seen a GXP before, but then again neither had the Pontiac techs, so no big deal.

**UPDATE**
Called the service manager and tried my best, but got nowhere. The best he could do was to get me a better deal on tires than the $1,250 originally quoted. We'll see if he can beat tirerack.com prices - I'm extremely doubtful. What I need is a $300 Dodge(gross) Omni for the winter.

that dealer is obviously a bad toucher ...try someone else ... of course he is gonna keep telling you the same crap ..because he is still a crook. crooked dealers don't just have a sudden flash of conscience and go honest...trust me I have worked for a couple .... note...past tense...worked
