NA 370 or Turbo stock LS1 bottom end?
I have a 00 z28 with H/C, torquerv2 and prc stg 2.5 heads, ls6 mani, headers, big tb, etc etc. Basically the boltons. Made a respectable 420hp, but now I need more and im torn here. I would like to turbo it as it sits with the stock LS1 bottom end, but on the other hand I could throw a 370 in it and a new cam and probably make high 400's low 500's if all goes well. I love turbo, always have, the way the power comes on is amazing, but what im worried about is my stock bottom end. I think if i boosted it and made close to 550-600hp It may pop, whereas a nice 370 would be a bit more safe in my mind. Nitrous is out of the question, I've ran it and I dont like it, I dont like the instantainious stress it puts on the engine nor do like having to refill the bottle, turn the bottle on, warm it up, etc etc. What would you guys do? If I get the 370 i'll be building it with a high CR which wouldn't suit well for future boost, but if i boost the LS1 and blow it I'll be sad. Decisions decisions.

You could probably get away with changing the rod bolts and do a conservatative tune and get away with your stock shortblock and see 550 rwhp with a turbo setup. Then just save your money for another motor for the future. I would go with a 402/408 in the future. Those shortblocks are getting pretty affordable and it will be a monster on boost.

If you go the 370 route and shoot for a 11.0/1 compression ratio, then down the road you want to add forced induction, you can still do it. Check out this build where we added an APS turbo system to an LS2 402 that we initially built for N/A. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=39 Bob

I don't think a turbo build vs a short block build fall in the same price range but you can definately do a conservative safe 500ish HP turbo build and do a block later when you have the $$$. 408 would be a better choice IMO unless you cant buy a crank. Bob also makes a good point.
