Default Lets talk/rant about coolant hoses

Okay...so my car literally every few months has been having a radiator hose mess up in one way or another. Funny thing is every time it has been a new hose. Now...one of the "repaired" hoses is leaking again. Initially it had a small hole by where it clamped up to the water pump that I cut to fix but now it is leaking from some crappy little plastic segment piece on the hose. It is the hose that goes from the water pump and routes down through the passenger side of the engine.

I've seen braided hose set ups and I think it's time for me to upgrade. Surely I can't be the only one with hoses giving up on life. I'd rather not go to autozone or Kragen for my radiator hose needs so I'm just wondering what you've done to resolve your hose issues.

I bought the goodyear kit. It took a pretty good bit (4 hour say) to install everything if I remember correctly, but that stuff is TOUGH. You have to have a rubbing issue or something if your burning through hoses that quick. I got the kit from summit, it was like 150$ I think. Its worth it if you only want to do it one more time.

I'm fixing my hoses right now! The clamps are tearing into the hoses and I will swap the stock clamps for some goodyear band clamps....it will fix the problem.

While discussing hoses and the Goodyear kit, what is the difference from the 93-94 cars? Kit says its only for 95-97.

the 93-94 have a T where the air bleed is by the alt and the 95+ have a non T peice.

you cut the metal crimps with a dremal or hack saw and take the hose off and then use hose clamps.

The main differance is in the way the TB lines are routed. If you have a 93-94 and you use the 95-97 kit you get a instant TB By-pass.

On teh other hand if you have a 95-97 just add the 93-94 head bleed tube to radiator line and you have a by-pass

the 93-94 Radiator hoses used to be alot more expensive then the 95-97s also

Well **** I might as well order that goodyear hose kit someday then. Summit should put up a description, I would have bought it a long time ago, guess I should have known it wouldn't be a big difference.

Sorry about that, what I actually meant is that I am using the OE hoses but it's been a different hose leaking every time with the exception of the most recent leak.

The goodyear kit is exactly the type of thing I have been curious about. I just don't want to invest my money into something that not too many people can provide feedback on. Just in time for Christmas.

Default this is from summit

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=KeywordSearch

this is what they are listing for the 95 LT1, whats the difference in the IMP SS kit anyone know?> I've eliminated the TB and Oil cooler coolant functions on my car I'm wondering if I could just buy the impala kit? And the single listed hoses are just regular old rubber right?

You want the Hi-Miler stuff. You know how normal tubes have the "string" in them? This stuff has a metal or a composite or something REALLY nasty in it. You'll understand if you try to cut one. It's the way to go, for real. I had the top radiator hose break twice in 3 weeks on me. I decided that was enough of that, got this kit and havent had a problem with it since. Plus it looks cool if you keep it clean. Thats a plus.

On the heater thing, just cut the press metal clips off and get some small clamps to replace them. I got a kit from summit with a bunch of hose clamps that I used. It's really not that bad to do, like I said it took maybe 4 hours. That was taking my time and drinking beer. I could do it in way less if it was a ASAP job.

I bought Samco hoses. They pretty much aren't going to break...ever...
Definitely invest in some better clamps too.

Oh does anyone have a link to a band clamp kit?

I agree. There is no way my car would allow that color under the hood, she would be puking orange (coolant) all over my driveway.

You know, Samco Hoses. The only silicone hose kit made for the LT1? Worm Gear clamps dig into hoses and cause premature wear.
Look up the kit on Summit Racing.

And my Samco kit is red, but it can be blue, red, or black

Edit: Holy Crap!!?? I just looked on Summit and Samco hose kit is not there any more! Wow, I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

Isn't a FULL kit, but it's upper and lower (so it looks) and $20 doesn't look bad, considering some of the OTHER kits I saw on Google (like this Nissan one for over $300)

http://www.shopwiki.com/search/SAMCO...T1+95-97+(BLUE)

EDIT: NM, Shopwiki lied. $20=200! So that $173 is a bit better. It's also a 4pc kit, not just 2. Available in all 3 colors
