ditto. I hate to say that because I personally would not want to take a pay cut but in there situation it is either that or no job. The union has acted like a blood sucking leach that has became fat off the automakers and now it is time for them to fall off.
I personally hate unions because when those guys walk on my job site I don't get much out of them and they don't care.

Gm
GM is in need to re- structure the company's board and workers, cut the unions pay, sell the company's jets, to pay down their existing debt. They need to show the people that this is a serious issue.

The bad thing is if hey go into bankruptcyit will really hurt their sales. Who wants to buy a new car from them if they don't know if the company will last long enough to honor their 3 year warranty?

Bankruptcy isn't always proven to hurt sales. Most of the airlines went bankrupt and people still flew on the planes. Some home builders have gone bankrupt and still sold homes later to recover. I'd still buy a GM vehicle if they went bankrupt. Bankrupt does not mean go out of business, it means clearing them of debts and letting them rebuild.
Union management sucks, they deserve to go down.

I predict Bush and Paulson giving them the money soon to prevent the losses with unemployment compensation and welfare as well as lost tax revenue.
Step 1. Ensure the Suppliers that they will be paid and to keep supplying.
Step 2. Work with the Unions to freeze pension contributions and go to the same 401k based system companies like Verizon have done and get rid of the extra costs per hour (GM pays 74.00 per hour while toyota pays 30.00, since it doesnt have the same long term benefits package).
Step 3. Stop giving foreign companies cash and breaks to compete against American companies (Ex. Toyota in Kentucky)
Step 4. Limitations on CEO Pay...... tell the board to have a congressional appointed "Car Czar" for all the companies that need money, someone who is not compensated in Millions per year and doesnt need a corporate jet, while also putting the steps in place to have the shareholders determine who and what the new CEO and executive compensations will be.
Step 5. Fire the marketing director and focus on a 25+mpg standard on 85% of the vehicle production. Leave the rest to SUV's and Sportscars
Step 5. (This is the Republican in me speaking) Kill the UAW or atleast hold them accountable for this collapse... paying 74.00 per working hr per employee is nuts! The unions have created this catastrophe and now the son of a bitches at the UAW are blaming the results last night on the freaking minority party Republicans!!! Give me a freakin break! Go figure.... I guess the attitude of the media is going to be: Don't worry... let the fed fix it temporarily and then on Jan 20th our Savior Barack Hussain Obama will save us........... give me a ******
Step 6. Start consolidating and hope that 20% of the dealerships go out of business... that is needed IMO.... the margins are getting killed with so much damn competition. If you havent been around for more than 5 years you should be the first to fail! yeah....... I can be pretty mean!
