Car Moves Side To Side Over Bumps
i never noticed this until my friend drove my car and told me about it. but whenever im driving, most notable at highway speeds, and hit a bump, the rear end moves from the left and then right. so it kinda shakes back and forth one time. its pretty weird and i cant beleive ive not noticed it. i think its the shocks. and maybe springs. since they are probably the originals and i have 105k on the car. so i plan on getting stranos re valved bilstein hds and some new stock springs. do you think this should solve the problem. thanks.

did you torque the phb down correctly? On a lot of aftermarket suspension stuff you have to torque the crap out of it to get it not to move. I was having problem with lca's making noise torqued them down noise gone! mine was moving and when we did the phb it went away.

Im going to tell you now its your shocks or springs. my car did the same exact thing and did it even worse shifting forth. In fact just yesterday i bought new shocks and springs all the way around. completely gone. the problem in my car is solved. i asked around before i got it fixed and everyone said it was my panhard. IT WASNT. but if the shocks and springs do not fix it, its most definitly your panhard.

Panhard bar is meant to control side-side but can
also induce lateral movement as it sweeps through
its arc from suspension travel. You want the bar to
be near-level so that any excursion up/down makes
as little as possible left-right (cosine of PHB angle)
deflection. On a dropped car the geometry has been
(potentially) moved off from stock, that way.
Then you may also have tire sidewall compliance
which turns a little bump into a big squirm, especially
if underinflated. You could test this element easily.

I agree it's shocks. FWIW, you don't need to change springs, the stock ones are very durable and you'd be wasting money unless you can see something wrong with the originals (like the car is sagging).
Save your spring money if nothing is "off" there, and get some decent shocks on it. You'll be very, very surprised.

What's he's talking about (I think) are the Bilstein--Strano Spec set. Those aren't revalves, but they are a different combination of front and rear production valvings that work better than the cataloged HD set that everyone else sells. Basically I don't use the rear shock they messed up about 2 years ago valving wise, I use a rear shock valving that pre-dates that change.

The solid axle definitely likes to hop over bumps in turns, especially when you get into a firmer suspension. However his problem sounds like unsettling of the suspension and I think lack of dampening from having good shocks is the cause.
