So, I certainly should not have sold the Formula. I got that already so no need to reiterate.
First, the scenario. I drive a lot for work and they compensate me for it. I receive a monthly stipend (Runzheimer program) for auto expense plus mileage. It pretty much covers the auto expense minus insurance. I work in the retirement plans industry as a registered representative performing reviews for our clients. I must be presentable in all areas. As an up and coming prefessional I opted for a Lexus IS250. 1) Lexus b/c...it's a Lexus; resale, reliable 2) IS250 relatively cheap and very economical.
I feel the Lexus is a little too pretentious and I want something a little bigger, powerful and less snobby. I realize that I would take a hit on economy i.e. V8 and I am willing to accept it. My company program allows for 4 doors only and an age requirement on the car; 4 yrs for regular and 6 yrs for a luxury car.
The G8 seems to fit the bill quite nicely. I don't care for the hood that much but in silver I can dig it. It drives great for a fat car and is a V8. My concerns are longevity and resale. What is in store for GM long term?
I drive about 25K a year.
Thoughts?

Since you do a lot of driving, don't go TBSS unless you don't mind poor gas milage. Best I've gotten was 18 mpg highway. Usually 15.8-16.5 mix and 13-14 just around town. Plus they tend to have trans and rear end problems among other annoying issues.
I'd also suggest an older CTS-V sice you're not digging the G8 so much. Plus they're M6.

Hey Donamian, I have always come back to LS1Tech when I need some good readin
I don't mean to say that I dislike the G8. I like them despite their lack of technology interior.
I'll check out the CTS-V BUT remember that my cars cannot be over a certain age. So, if I get a 2005 CTS-V I would have to sell it Dec 2011. If I got a 2009 G8 I would have to sell it Dec 2013. To be honest I am not impressed with the CTS-V reliability.
Naturally, I get tired of cars rather quickly (unless I can toy with them) and it may be better to get an older car put 40-50K on it and sell it. But that sure would be a helluva lot of taxes paid every time I sell/buy.

Ok boys, my thought here is to not spend a ton of money. I am about to close on a new house in the next few weeks and don't want any more debt than I already have which means a car in the 20-26K range. Not much to work with but I am trying to limit spending.

House should come first, leave some cushion in the bank and avoid debt. Also remember, you only pay taxes on the difference when you trade, not the whole price. I like the G8 idea, or a used CTS-V - I see them as low as 20k and you can still find some with GMPP or even remainder of factory warranty in that range. Good luck!
