Default Stuck between DR's for a few reasons...

Right now I have all season Toyo's with great tread but traction is worthless so its time for me to DD on some DR's. I drive the car 4-5k a year and only on nice days. I have and swear that M/T's are the best but they are 255's mounted on some camaro rims that I use for when I go to the track. I would without doubt go with the Nitto's for the street but the last thing I want is some 275 Nitto's looking skinnier than the 275's I have upfront. I know the 315 Nitto's are probaly pushing it on my stock 9" rim eventhough they run skinny so I am stuck. I would go with the M/T or BFG but if I'm going to get 2-3k out of them then thats ridiculous. I don't do any corner carving or any that stuff I just want something to allow me to hook decently from a dig on the street and allow me to not spin if I go WOT under 60mph. Am I missing any alternatives or am I SOL?

well a street tire is going to suck compared tp a dr unfortunatlly if you want the traction your going to have to get nittos at the min ...but ultimatlly accept the m/t and bfg's were very quickly

Do you by chance have any pictures of their cars or atleast could you tell me if their tires bulge out too much on the rim? I know that running a 315 on anything less than a 10.5 is a big no no but I also have seen alot of people running the 315 Nitto's on 9 and 9.5 rims since they are skinnier and having no issues. If worse comes to worse that may be the route I go.

I run the nittos during the summer and switch back to normal street tires for the winter. The nittos worked great! I went from no traction at all between first and second to a dead hook on the street. Im an automatic of course but it made a huge difference and I really enjoyed the traction. But if your looking for the look I would go with the MT's.

Hope this doesn't get the thread locked.

I have ran the 315 Nitto on my Fikse's (9.5) before and they have a LITTLE bulge but that is it. The Nitto's run WAY narrow compared to almost any other tire. I understand the safety issue with most 315's and wouldn't even attempt to mount any other 315 on a 9.5 inch rim, but the Nitto fit fine in my opinion. If I can't get any 295/45R17's MT's for my 17x9.5's then I might go 315 Nitto.

if they fit its stupid for the site to get pissey about the 315's on a 9" wheel. i run 325 mickey thompson DR's on 10 inch wheels. i think thats supposed to be pushing it too but ive been doing it for a while.

It will get locked..haha

But anyways, I have BFG drag radials on my car...It is not my daily driver but I have around 3000 miles and 30 track passes on them. They are down to the wear bars.

Great traction, but don't expect to drive anywhere far.

I am also suprised it isnt locked either..I too run nitto 315's on my ten spoke rims they fit on the rim fine with minimal bulging, and when I mounted them nothing seemed wrong or like it would be a problem. I had both the nitto and the F1 in a 315 at my work and would never try putting the goodyear on unless it was at least a 10.5" rim. I just dont understand why it is not allowed to be talked about here I understand the manufactuers spec's but we can still talk about grinding our calipers for 15" rims and that too is not safe???????

Thanks alot guys, those pictures helped alot too. I really wish Nitto made a 295 or atleast ran more true to size. I would get some BFG's or M/T's if only they would last longer I cant afford to run 2 sets of DR's a year. The Nitto's in a 315 may be my answer and I think they should work ok for me. Considering all I do with this car is drive it around town to work and whatnot and race people from digs they should work just fine, corners and highway runs I do not do its basically a car I bring out on nice days in nice weather only.

It usually gets locks b/c some people aren't smart enough to realize that there is differences in Brands. Someone might read in this thread a 315 fits & not fully read the thread & then try to stick a 315 MT or something on a 9" wheels which would be a big no no.

If you are talkin about a specific brand of 315 fitting like is being stated in this thread, then I don't see a problem talkin about it. I understand the mods closing most these threads b/c alot of members don't fully read the threads. they just skim it & see what they want to see & then if it backfires they scream "well I read it was ok on here" when in fact they never actually read & understood what they were reading.

just do the 315 nitto DR. It will work fine for what you use it for and it will hook semi well. Plus it will last about 2-3 times more than any other drag radial out there and wont et you killed in the rain

^^Yeah I saw those. I'd hate to be the first to run them and find out that they only last like 5k or something tho but if they turn out well they could be a good alternative for me in the future.

I have over 10k miles/2 full summers & a fair amount of passes on my MT radials. They are coming off when the car comes out next spring, because they are bald, but I don't daily drive it & I try not to drive it in the rain (I have been caught a time or 2 though). Depends on how hard you drive them, that is not the "norm".

Im in the same boat, I can not find M/T DR`s 275-40-17, they are on national backorder, so this may be an option that I have to look at. At least I have some time until spring is here.

If you do wait for the M/T's you wont be disappointed. I have them in 255's for the track and they cut 1.6's all day long and dead hook on the street, very good tires.
