Default What can cause a motor to run hot?

just driving at 1800 RPM down the highway. not beating on it.

What could be some causes for it to run this way? I am talking about OIL temp, not coolant temp.

thoughts?

Is it a new engine, like brand new?

rising coolant temps will cause a rise in oil temps.

A long interval between oil changes where the oil gets old and thinned out will cause the oil to run hotter.

Low oil too.

210 oil temp in 15 degree weather, just going down the highway

250 in the summer. Coolant temp NEVER goes over 195
