6.0 liter to ls1 questions
Hello, I was thinking on either getting a ls2 motor or just a 6.0 liter truck motor the cast iron ones. Now with either of these if i just get a short block shouldn't i be able to put my ls1 heads on it and my oil pan and all my other stuff correct ? But if i wanted a cam I would have to get a 6 liter cam ? any Help would be appriaciated.

The 6.0 liter iron motors, as far as I know, utilize the same cam sensor as the ls1, which is located in the rear of the motor. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but pretty much all the "LS" cams have the cam sensor machined into the rear of the cam to accomidate the sensor. The LS2's utilized the cam sensor which is mounted in the front cover so the sensor gets its signal, for lack of a better term, from the upper, large timing gear. 1x gear for the 24x motors and 4X for the 58x motors. Hope that helped.

The set up I want:
LQ9 short block
243 heads
LS6 intake manifold
ported TB
228R cam
LT headers

Ok so if i can pick up a LQ9 short block that would be the way to go then i take it. Also how would that cast iron block with the stock internals except of the cam i put in it and whatnot do with a 150 wet shot ? Also i would have to get LQ9 cam for it not a cam for a ls1 correct ?

With the LQ4/9 block, you can use any LS1 cam. The iron block would probably wiegh around ~90lbs more. The only way to tell the difference between the LQ4 and the LQ9 block would be to look at the pistons. The LQ9 has flat top pistons and the LQ4 has dished pistons.
