Trans stuck to the Engine
I'm trying to remove the transmission but it is stuck to the engine. I've tried everything i can think of to free it but it still refuses move away from the engine block. Anyone know of any tricks that might help? Thanks

I had the same issue when i pulled my trans out of my 98, never been out before and corroded to the block. This was about a month ago. I ended up using a 36" prybar to get it free (on a lift of course). I wasnt able to get it to break free the traditional way through the starter hole. On the opposite side of the block there is another small dust sheild, i took that off and pryed there for awhile. You get a little better access point. Also used the big prybar as a punch with a rubber mallet tapping on the back of it to the bellhousing. Of course there was a loud pop when it broke free and i swore i broke something but it came right off. Sprayed pb blaster on the dowel pin holes too, im sure that helped because that was where most of my restriction was at. Hope this helps

well i can say this much....no pry bar is going to get this off. I called the local trans shop and they warned me its very easy to RUIN the engine block trying to get the trans off the pins. They told me they use a torch to heat the bell housing carefully. GEEZ

Your crazy to take a torch to it before a pry bar. Your not gonna hurt anything if you use your head when you do it. If your that consernd then spray PB blaster all over it and let it sit over night and then go at it with the pry bar. Good luck.

I didnt think it was coming off with a prybar either, 110k and never out. like I said it happened all of the sudden, persistence is key. It took me about 30 min before it finally came off, after prying the **** out of it.

WELL this will floor you all, I started this thread to get an honest opinion. I took the car to the local trans guy to get the third clutches fixed and he claims the only way he could the trans out is by heating the bell housing. I'm really worried he did damage to the wiring ,body and engine by doing such a STUPID thing!

I confronted the shop owner, he claims he didn't use a torch but a Matco electric heat gun. I'm going to look carefully at the bell housing when i get the car back this afternoon then i'll tell you what it looks like. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Check for burnt wires, plastic, or soot around the trans.

I looked up top so far and it looks clean, tomorrow i'll get someone to look underneathfor me. Trans works good again, the guy has a good reputation. What really scares me is the damage heat could do to the engine, aluminum engines don't like being heated unevenly.
