Default Under Body Aerodynamics

Not sure if this is a good place for the post but meh lets see hehe.

I had one of those huh what if thoughts pop in the old noodle. Corvettes have a ton of plastic under body covers to help with drag i believe is the term. Us camaro firebird guys have no such thing hehe.

Anyone have any thoughts on the what if this was done to a camaro/firebird? Im not sure if the added weight could justify doing it for just 1/4 mile racing. Im sure road racing could see some benefits... Has anyone ever tried to make the under side of their car like a corvette?

heres what i did/do

tape on the nose

this allows any air to escape from the rear bumper area. the liscense plate is on a hinge

small diffuser i made, so that the rear bumper dont act like a parachute.

also added these 4 holes to the left and right of the plate for air as well

-brandon

***side note****

NO i havent done back to back testing w/ the tape on/off the nose

ive also thought about trying to make a multi piece belly pan to help flaten out the bottom, but it would be to time consuming imo

I would think the holes in the rear bumper would cause a vacuum and cause more air to pulled up into that area.

I run a rear undertray like you but without the holes.

i thought up a really good idea some time ago.

A flat underbody helps air travel smoothly and keeps it moving fast without creating to much lift or drag being caught on **** like our gas tanks. (correct me if im wrong im not a aerodynamic engineer)

So I thought what if you bought a very large rectangular piece of sheet metal (very thin piece) and found stock mounting points and holes and make a template to cover up any gaps. However you would have to have some gaps to let hot air and other things escape. I think the biggest area of concern is the rear section.

The venting could be done by using louvers that would be open facing the rear. This would help pull that air out.

refer back to my post w/ the pics, under my name i said i dont have back to back testing.

also i would think these little things are helping as i am gaining anywhere between 26-30mph on the back half and have trapped a best of 127.43 might work or might not jmo
