Trans advice fellas.....
What's my best bet?
Th350 or th400?
What all do I need to do the swap? My car is allready a a-4 if that helps. My car is very mild to.

If your car is mild just get a built 4l60e and enjoy your overdrive...and just drop it in without having to worry about new crossmembers or possible driveshaft length issues.

I considered that but the 4l60's don't seem to take the beatings the 3spds do. For what I would pay for a "good" 4l60,I could build one nasty 3spd.

theres also the option of a 4l80e. it just doesnt make the power for a th350 or th400. are u having trans problems already? i guess id stick with the 4l60e till it crapped out. you hav more mod plans for it?

I did the TH350 swap in my car...and glad I did. I havent had any problems on motor or on the spray. I spent about 12-1400 for the total swap, and that was buying alot of the stuff second hand (crossmember, shifter, cable kit, dipstick tube). I was able to send my convertor I already had in to have it redone for the TH350. I burned up a stalled 4l60e with very low milage on it and a shift kit...I didnt want to take the gamble on another one or spending 2k on a built one.
Its a bit of work (PITA), especially if you do it from the garage floor like I did.

Many vendors on here build 4L60E's that are running in 9 second F-Bodies. Millions in the 10's. Also a 4L80E would be an option that way you could have overdrive unlike a TH350 or TH400. CPT is building my 4L60E...$1500 for the "Pro Race" that is in 9 and 10 second cars. Just a direct in and out swap and still have overdrive. 4L60E's in stock form are junk (mine went at 16,000 miles) but they can be built to be very stout.

The technology and parts to make a stout 4L60E did not exist 10 to 15 years ago, where the sad reputation for the 4L60E began and has since been carried on. CPT seems to be quite adept at proving people wrong with the 4L60E.

if its mild rebuild the 4l60e but if you insist the th350 long tail, you wont have to change the drive shaft but youll need to do something with the tq arm and tranny mount there are crossmembers made for all that, like this one

the speedo wont work though. unless you get a convertor box
something like this

Thank you.
My fear is puking through transes. I must say though,it is nice having o/d lol.
Is it true that a th350 or 400 can slow the car down? Someone told me that it takes more to spin the old 3spds.

Thats not true from what I understand...next to a powerglide the TH350 will offer the least amount of rotating mass. So you will build more power, but I think when people say that its more about the gearing. The way the 4l60e is geared, it gets out of the whole better than a TH350. The Th400 is a heavy duty trans and adds alot of rotating wieght to your drivetrain, now that one will slow you down with wieght mass alone.
