Default Diagnostic Port

What would cause my diagnostic port to not work. SES light came on recently, and when I hook up my scanner, the scanner does not come on. However, it sounds like the fuel pump is priming while it is plugged in. The car is a 96 OBD 2, and has a mail order tune. Also I have checked all the fuses. any suggestions?

Do you have the correct cable and software?

As far as I know, I'm using a regular OBD2 scanner, I know it works, because I tested it in my truck.

This might sound silly, but perhaps the DTC you're getting is FOR the diagnostic port.

Sorry I don't have much more to add, being that I'm OBDI.

This is a shot in the dark and since you said the fuel pump is priming I am going to guess this will not be helpful. Anyways, does the key have to be turned on?

Make sure your cigarette lighter fuse is good. It also provides power to the DLC, pin 16.

just a thought- maybe check the pins on the scanner plug to make sure none are bent.

I had the same problem, and it ended up being the ground wire that hooks on to the coil bolts that was left off.
