Default Weld Racing Rim Weight Vs Summit Rims

I looked around and never saw anything conclusive.

I am looking for a drag rim, not a ton of $$$ to spend on Bogarts or Billet Specialites.

I will be looking for 15 x 3 or 15 x 4 in the front and 15 x 10 in the rear.

Are the knock offs from summit the same weight or more. Weight is an issue.

Thanks for any insight.

The Summit knock offs are A LOT heavier. I can't remember the exact numbers off hand when we weighed them, but it was a big difference.

I would figure as much. Nothing good comes cheap.

I not a fan of grinding calipers but depending on the price I may have to do so. I know I can get Greg Weld fronts but no rears since they dont fit and the newer line from Centerline still doesnt clear Fbodies.

I will take any options if people have them.

Thanks!

The Prostar 15x8 rears weigh roughly 13lbs compared to the 17.5lb weldstar 15x8's... I'm not sure about the fronts. I found a pair of used rears for the price of new weldstars though.

Hope that helps

I know they are similar to a Bogart but just a little less expensive, high 300 for one rear.

No link on them..but there's a few posts here about them. I think I was one of the firsts with a set on an F-body. The 15x10 7.5 backspace ones were about 15lbs, but are a very streetable wheel, and fit over stock brakes.

For the record, our LS1 style Bogart rears are nowhere near the weight of a Billet Specialty rear wheel. They are about 60% heavier than our LS1 style wheels. I'm surprised that welds rear street wheel is lighter than the Billet Specialty wheels. One would think it would be heavier since the center appears to have more material.

Billet Specialties suggested weight was 16.2 lbs from their website (if I'm not mistaken). Most of the mass is in the center section which welds looks very beefy which would be typical for a street designed wheel. If a street-style wheel is of most importance, than you'd want to stick with a beefier heavier wheel anyways...weight shouldn't be a primary #1 concern. Welds wheel is much better quality than a cast wheel. If design is most important, stick with welds street wheels over Summits street wheel. If cost is most important, the Summit wheel will be the best bet. If you're referring to prostars, they are a very good value as a drag wheel, they will be lighter than summits street wheel. You're comparing apples to oranges. It's going to be tough to compare the weight of any street style wheel to a drag style wheel.

To clarify, weld manufactures MANY style wheels down to very light high-end drag wheels to economy wheels. You need to be a bit more specific I suppose in what you're asking so we can give you a clear answer.

^Ok, to clarify

Looking for a track only rim

Will have a set of ET Drags

Will not be street driven

Looking for 15 x 10 for when I go up 28" tall slicks

Cost is a concern but weight is a little bit more, I just hate grinding away at a brake caliper and taking too much meterial off for the street use it would see normally.

If the $$$ was there id have some Bogarts on the car with the quickness.

Track only rim and cost being a concern doesn't go together. You can't have it all. If you want a track only setup, and are concerned with weight, then the answer is obvious. Save your money for a set of Bogarts.

Unfortunately I see that heading this way. Sadly there was a Steal in the Eastern Mem. Forum but with cash flow, it just wasn't there

Time to start saving.

Thanks for all the insight!

I don't know what your pockets look like but I just ordered a set of the Billet Specialties from Dragwheelz.com and it was 1140 to the door with the lugnuts. I got the f-body specific 15x10 rears and 15x4 with the 1.625 back spacing. Thru Jegs the same wheels are 1225 without the lugs and you still have to add shipping. Send Dragwheelz a pm and he will get them to you or go to the site and call them. It is an ls1tech special.

Actually, the summit wheel which is very close in weight is actually a far greater bang for the buck at least if you're looking for a street wheel. I believe summits wheel is 17lbs, BS wheel is 16 lbs. The summit wheel fits the F-body easily. I wouldn't consider either of them light-weight. The billet wheel will look better in my opinion. You get what you pay for.

Out of the street wheels , I'd pick welds new rear wheel.

Summit Stars. Weld Prostar knock offs, only a lot heavier, and they don't offer anything for the rears other than 15x8s, so youre tire choices are limited.

Camaro396 is right on the money as usual. I hate to suggest the summit wheels as I don't particularly care for suggesting non-USA products. Weld racing wheels are by far a better solution. Realistically speaking though most don't care and the almighty dollar speaks...

Welcome to the Internet.

The World's Greatest Invention in the past 20 yrs that has enable companies reach virtually unlimited customers has also lead people into becoming a price orientiated society.

As for a wheel, I see a Bogart on this car. Will be now saving pennies.
