Default What could happen if i run open headers?

I have a 99 WS6, which has a totally stock motor. It actually doesn't even HAVE aftermarket headers or anything like that. My friend has a '97 mustang gt, and recently disconnected his exhaust. It sounds MEAN! I was wondering what could happen if i did that to MY car? Could i break/burn anything? Will there be a loss in performance?

.....And make your car smell like **** because all the fumes will float up into the car. Get a cut out installed it will make your car louder when wanted and you will gain rwhp with most likely no check engine lights / and other worries and if you want you can just cap it back off and/or get a electric cutout.

I've heard they burn out your valves prematurely when you run them open for an extended period of time.

ran mine like that to the exhaust shop to have it fixed. Ran worse, sounded like **** and threw the CEL. Not worth it. just disconnect it from where the rear end section of your exhaust connects the the y pipe. it sounds a little better and at least gives you some back pressure. or just quit being cheap and buy a SLP loud mouth

First of all, mustang exhaust sounds WAY different than ls1 exhaust. You will not be happy with the results. It will run rich, foul plugs, **** up your valves, and all the fumes would give you a headache. Our cars need backpressure, so just get a real exhaust system or slap on a cutout after some headers!!

what about running with nothing from the headers back...like after a header install you dont put the y on cuz you are taking it somewhere to get it welding on...

Open headers = headers with no other exhaust. Your post is the same question as this thread.

I'm not disagreeing OR agreeing with that statement, but if you say there's no good info here, enlighten us. Don't just say, "Nope; you're all wrong."
