Can I take my AC belt off?

Can I take my AC belt off? Is this the concept for A/C bypass, will i see a small hp increase? The reason im taking it off is its sqeaking loudly and I'd rather just take it off for now until i replace the pulley/ tensioner, but will this hurt my engine in any way. Can it throw off the main belt pulley's alignment? Just want to make sure nothing bad can come of this.

ya i took mine off during the winter for the same loud squeaky reason.. i replaced it once and the new one went bad so i said screw it... al it is is a 27 dollars idler puller that i get for free cuz of the 1 year manufacturer warrantly just too lazy to change it... i will though when it hits 100 degrees..
