Default STRONGEST gear set for a 10-bolt????

Exactly what it says. I want the best set of gears I can buy for a 10 bolt. I have a set of Precisions now and I beleive I have some cracks in the teeth or something b/c they went to whinning like hell after a nitrous leave Sunday.

Right now a 12 bolt isn't really an option and I really don't want one anyway b/c of the weight so I prefer to beef the stock rear up a little b/c this IS an automatic car and won't see any slicks very often.

The ratio will have much more to do with it than the brand of gear.

I'd look for a complete stock 3.42 rearend that's never been into. That would give it a good chance of being quiet. It would also be an easier install, IMO.

And try to make sure it runs a Torson instead of the Auburn.I've seen to many Auburns blow the spider gears.

HMMMM, I DONT LIKE THE TORSIONS BECAUSE OF THE SLIP RATIO THEY HAVE THOUGH, DAMM WHOSE AUBURNS HAVE THROWN SPIDER GEARS? I HAVE HAD A AUBURN IN MY CAR FOR 3 YEARS AND ABOUT 2000 PASSES IF I HAD TO GUESS AND ITS FINE, I WOULD THOUGH SAY THE 3:42 WOULD BE A LOT STRONGER GEAR DUE TO THE TOOTH THICKNESS AND THE NUMBER OF TEETH

regal, you're new here so you probably don't know but typing in all caps is considered to be yelling. It's very hard to read.

When you start pulling 1.4 60 ft times on that Auburn unit. Let us know. I've blown the spider gears out of an Auburn simply pulling low 1.5 60 fts. I know of at least one Torsen running 1.3s.

From what I've seen (and experienced), the Torsen is clearly the stronger unit.

T-2R would give you a better grip but not
cheap.

The strongest cut gear is going to be a genuine GM gear set, not Motive, but GM.

I would suggest what Colonel said. Find yourself a completely stock untouched 3:42 rear end. They're plenty strong to handle an A4 car IMO. There are some M6 guys running stock 3:42's into the low 10's.

Ive heard Richmonds are very strong but whine, mine on the other hand do not whine at all and are strong as hell so far. Whine has more to do with the install than the brand of gear. Also just like colnel said the numerically lower the gear ratio the stronger they will be because of the size of the pinion gear.

I found a set of 3.42's that my freind is just going to give to me. I would consider finding a stock rear but I am going to upgrade to a 3.73 again later. I just didn't have the cash to buy he gears, axles and maybe a locker right now.
