Default Anyone running a spool Street and strip.

If so what advantages and disadvantages??

I have a clunky[very]Detroit Locker and am getting tired of its ideosyncracies when turning corners not on the power or in parking lots!!

If you think a locker is bad, wait until you try to turn around in a parking lot with a spool. The inside tire will squeal and the car won't want to turn. You'll wear tires and possibly break axles (stock axles will eventually snap like twigs). That change would be "out of the frying pan and into the fire" if you ask me (and you sorta did....).

My thoughts.

It is any turn that is 60* or more, like the U-Turn at the end of the track, unless you brake pretty hard or get on it during the turn the car gives violent clunks.

The advantage of the spool is that you don't have the clunking of the locker as it engages and disengages. Other than that it should act just like your current set up. If I had to choose between the two I would go with the spool because I don't like the violent clunks, as you said, that go with the locker.

My buddies mustang with spool is fine, If you drove it without knowing, you would think it was a posi. Fast (15mph) U-turn, you feel it. other then that its not bad. Most of my parts for the spool are in, going to pick them up tonight, and as long as they are all right and the new drive shaft is made, I should have the car out to heat the new gears. If the snow/rain stops!!!!! Hoosiers dont like snow, Trust me!!

I drove my other brand car with a spool for 2 years on the street.
Hey, just keep in mind it's a strip car and you'll be fine.

OK, it is in, Street driven and raced.
It isnt bad at all. I was a little scarred to do it, But seems fine. Ive only driven 20 miles, and 3 passes, But it isnt bad at all. It is louder but my inline fuel pump hides alot of that.

Strip, You wont even know it is in the car till you get back to your parking spot and try to back/pull in going slow doing a tight turn. It feels like your turning with the brakes pressed a little. Not bad.
Street driving- Going streigt, and normal turns on the road you CAN NOT tell. Going slow 90* turn from main street onto my side street, It chattered a little, Again not bad. High way, as long as you know it is in there, It is fine, No more 80 mph off ramps, But driving on my slicks stopped that long ago!
Over all this far I Highly recomend this to anyone wanting to Never wory about the rear and doesnt ming giving up a little street driving. And it is about 20lbs or more Less then the old unit.
I'll try to keep you informed with this, And if you need help I know what the part #'s are, and what you need. Good luck

I really liked my 12-bolt Mosher spool with 4.56's untill it broke after about only 10 passes.

didn't mind it on the street at all.

You blew the spool?????????????????
I had it out last night for about 50-60 miles, high waY, back roads, the hole 9 yards, it was not bad at all. I new it was there, but nothing bad. I dont think i would do it on a car I drove everyday with little mods, But a car like mine that is driven after work everyday as a toy. It is not bad. I drive about 100-300 miles a week, depending on work and weather, I will have no problem doing this (imo).
