Motor has 500 miles in it and head gasket leaks any pointers
I have put 500 miles on my motor forged 370 has comestic gaskets on it. I notice the the day the driver side head is leaking some around the gasket not bad just some drips. The builder said I need to go thru and retorque the heads. Has anyone had this happen to them. What would you torque it down to

So someone built you an engine, it leaks after 500 miles and they say YOU need to retorque the heads?

On the subject of cometics bro, I had 2 sets fail on my 346. One set in 06, and another set in 07. So on the new 402 I opted for good ole GM .056 mls. I will never use another cometic gasket. Bad luck for me. Btw, I was torqued to specs, and retorqued and she still leaked from around the number 2 cylinder.

I haven't had any problems with mine but that N20 is hard on stuff, which is what the shop is likely going to tell you. Surface prep is key with cometics. You shouldn't have to re-torque the head bolts but at this point it sounds like a good place to start.

Be careful. If you're leaking coolant you may be burning the gasket. I burnt a valley through my head gasket on my TA with ARP bolts, and stock gaskets. Retorque did nothing but delay bolt and gasket replacement.

Personally, if it was leaking externally, I would pull the heads, but a set of studs and new gaskets and either take it to another shop, or do it myself.... I would not be very happy if a shop told me to retorque the heads myself after only 500 miles unless it is a track only car....
