torque convertor problem
i was installing a tci torque convertor in my 4l60e. when i was tightening the bellhousing up something somewhere shifted and heard something sound like it poped in the transmission. i stoped working on it at this point had a fire call now its too dark to work on it anymore wander if anyone else has experianced this

noooo i was hoping someone would come on here and say that it always does that its normal but i had a horrible gut feeling that the pump got busted. guess i wont know till the weekend when i pull it out if i did bust pump did it mess anything else up or can i just replace the pump (i have never worked on a transmission besides replacing filer and put clutches in manuels

i guess now i need to ask has anyone found a how to on replacing the pump. i want to do it myself as it would be a good learning esperiance. plus my im already way over my budget on this project so another 600 to get a shop to do it would be devistating. iv searched here and cant find anything.

yea pump is gone i did the same thing when i put my motor in after the rebuild i was in a hurry and it made like a loud PING sound..... a good rule of thumb is that the tranny should **** all the way against the block and you should be able to run the bolts near the guide pins in all almost all the way by hand never pull the black together by the bolts.... sorry to hear this man............as for the replacement of the pump id say if you take it out of the car and take it to a shop it wouldnt be that much..... hell the pump is like 150 or so and say 2 hours labor lookin at like maybe 280 300 .... ask around im sure a local motor man can take care of it for ya..........

thanks for the info i already bought another pump i looked at all the teeth and everything i could see in the torque convertor everything looked ok couldnt really see anything messed up with the pump but im preety sure from reading on here that it is shot.

ok so i got my new pump and everything in and tried to put the tranny back in and of course somethin aint right i went to tci's website and took there measurements and it aint sliding in the tranny all the way they say i hould be going in about 1 1/16" it only slides in about 1/2". that is the mounting pads distance inside the tranny what is wrong with this

no not getting any real distinct clicks at all here are the partnumbers for what i have im wandering if i have the wrong pump or something. torque convertor tci 242931 transmission 24217282 front pump 24201073 i have tried several times to get it on there probly a good hour of slide on spin try again spin try again spin try again even tried calling tci they said spin try again spin try again. its driving me nuts

ok so i tried standing it on the tail shaft and sitting the convertor in i get 2 clicks nothing else no matter what i try its driving me nuts is it possible the pump is in wrong the convertor is trashed im lost and i have to stop for the day i need some sleep have to work tonight. anybody got any suggestions

i was told its a a 2002 tahoe transmission only partnumber i saw on it was 24217282 sorry i have the torque convertor for the 99 up model confirmed this with tci im thinking its possible i was lied to on the transmisson year model since the convertor is about .5" away from where it should be.

ok i will do that as soon as i get off work in the morning. It does have the front pump from the new model 4l60e had it put in yesterday. but im wandering if there is something diffrent somewhere selse maybe input shaft is longer or something causing it to bottom out inside the torque convertor

ok thanks alot man i been driving myself nuts trying to figure this out i have put torque convertors in before not many times. this is this trucks 4th transmission 3 diff motors. other than the bell housing should this transmission work. will i have issues with it i was told it came from a silverado with a 5.3 and my motor is a 5.3 from a tahoe so they should have matched up. guess the junk yard lied.
