yea pump is gone i did the same thing when i put my motor in after the rebuild i was in a hurry and it made like a loud PING sound..... a good rule of thumb is that the tranny should **** all the way against the block and you should be able to run the bolts near the guide pins in all almost all the way by hand never pull the black together by the bolts.... sorry to hear this man............as for the replacement of the pump id say if you take it out of the car and take it to a shop it wouldnt be that much..... hell the pump is like 150 or so and say 2 hours labor lookin at like maybe 280 300 .... ask around im sure a local motor man can take care of it for ya..........

What year model 4L60E is it. There are 2 different converter possibilities. The LT1 style 4l60E is about 5.900" in over al height. The LS1 style 4L60E is about 6.500" in over all height. Maybe you have the wrong converter??

Yes remove the converter and take a picture of the front area of the bell showing the bell and pump and post it up we can tell you what you have.

That trans has the wrong bellhousing on it for a LS1. That is why you are having issues with the converter not appearing to be fully installed. The bell you have is shorter. Here is what it should look like. Notice the bolt hole at the 12 o'clock position. Vince

For what ever reason it looks like someone swapped the bell on that unit. You will need to swap the bell in order to make it work. If you look close at the picture the metals look different between the case and the bell as far as the grease and grime. Vince
