Default Exhaust in Strip only car?

I have a Borlamouth setup now with the bigger Y-pipe and pacesetter headers. Is it worth getting rid of my tailpipes from the muffler back for weight savings and just put a turndown on the muffler? I've read on here where some cars do not like running without the Y-pipe loosing back pressure? What do you guys race with, open headers? Just Y-PIPE, X-pipe?

Kind of curious, I have a cutout right after the ORY so I was thinking about pulling off the stock exhaust from the ORY back, figured it would just be the same as running open cutout. Save some pretty good weight as well.

I have about 8" of 3" pipe coming off each header flange, then a 3x12 bullet muffler on each side with a turndown. The car is pretty much committed to track use but is still licensed & insured. Runs good.

I ran my car last year with a set of turndown's off the header collectors, and it ran fine.

I have a 3.5 inch dual pipe coming off each collector to a super 44 muffler on each side, and aout 12 inches of 3.5 inch pipe after that.

If you have no noise regulations where you race and you don't street drive the car I'd get a set of turndown's off the headers and call it a day, if you feel the need to run some pipe off the headers go ahead, but honestly I tried putting 16 inches of pipe off the headers then the turndowns, and it made absolutely no difference at all.

I'd be running strait open headers now if I didn't race at englishtown and have to abide by their muffler rule.

Granted I've gone as fast with my dual 3.5 inch setup as I have with open exhaust, but if I had a choice, I'd drop it off the car permanently.

Thanks for the input. We don't have any noise restrictions at our track. I just wanted to make sure before i took everything off that it did not affect the performance negatively.

I took JLWS-6 advise and ran My kooks headers with a 3 1/2 collector to 15 inches of pipe off each headers with 2 3 1/2 bullets mufflers w/ turndowns and then dumped before the tranny braket if that.

That's all you need. Any more then that and it's just dead weight.

We run bullet mufflers right off the headers on all 3 Ray Family Racing Camaros.

There ya go. I'm sure that if there was something that was gonna work better, Coach you would have tried it/found it... with 3 cars in the stable you get alot more r&d done then most do.

Thanks all for the great responses. I will definitely be removing my SLP tailpipes to start with, and go from there. I have the one Borla Xr-1 muffler now about 12 inches i think off the Y-pipe. I will have to get some bullet mufflers. What should i get?

Not to hijack, but im running a 1 chamber flo in the stock location. Will I gain anything besides less weight by dumping it after the ORY?

I have magnaflow oval mufflers clamped right to the headers 9x18 i think with flowmaster turn downs off of them. It adds a little weight, but it cleans up the sound real nice. My car sounds like *** open headers.

I use the same but with Flowmaster 1 Chambers. I drive mine on the street all the time. It is a bit on the loud side, but i'm fine with it.

Good stuff in here, I'm gonna run an open y pipe for now to lose that stock exhaust weight then eventually go to some bullets off the headers.

I just took my SLP catback off of the Borla muffler and cut a piece off to make a turndown off the muffler for now. I will get a muffler bracket tomorrow to hang the end of the Xr-1 off of. It is pretty tight now but just for safety. We'll see how it sounds. Eventually i want to get rid of the Y-Pipe also, i will when i can get another muffler. Thanks
