Default New Clutch Engages at the top...WTF

Just had a new spec 3+ put in with a tick master and new slave. Mechanic said he put in a shim, its a stage 3+ with a spec flywheel. What gives why is it engaging at the top?

tick master = adjustable, reset it to where you want.

If adjusting the master didn't make a difference then there is something happening hydraulicly. Remember, whether you ad a shim or use an adjustable master...you are effectively forcing a change to occur as a result of the difference in height associated with either addition. What slave are you using? Was there a black insert on the back-side of the slave? Last week I saw an OE slave with a black shim siliconed into the back. It came from GM this way. I posted about this on here. I have not seen another unit like this...but it is possible that your slave has a different mounting depth as a result of the addition of a stock shim. Did you or the mechanic examine the slave before installation?

Its a slave I bought from tick at the same time I bought the adjustable master. I don't remeber seeing a shim glued to the back of the slave. Sounds like he gets to pull it back out and do it again.

The shim I have referenced was on a stock GM part not a Tick part...so this shouldn't be an issue. Tick actually did a very good write-up relating to the need for a shim. I have provided the link below.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...need-shim.html

If you pull the parts check these measurements and let me know what you find. Thanks,
