save your money and buy a full exhaust, not worth it.

"save your money and buy a full exhaust, not worth it. "

Thanks but I have plenty of money. I'm willing to lose whatever power it robs to have quiet power. But if I can go longtubes with semi quiet power (cats and stock cat back) I'm interested. Folks have said LTs with stock catback are quiet. I want to hear for myself.

hi flow cats, magnaflow, look at their sub-metallic spun cuts, more hi flowing and takes more abuse than conventional ceramic cats. I just threw some on my true duals after the collecters right before the x pipe.

I'm a fan of running a stock exhaust with a set of headers. Just get a cutout if you're concerned about power loss in my opinion.

How much louder than stock was it with cutout closed?

Thx,

you wont need cats for quiet on that setup, i had it for awhile with an ORY and its silent honestly. it drove me nuts so i never capped my cutout.

This is the best I can do for you man.

Longtubes, ORY, Stock catback, and Cutout(closed)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpdNu8cAsG8

The video even makes it sound louder than it was. It was silent. I got lots of people that did not believe that the car had longtubes on it.

Thanks cOncEpT!! So with cats I'd be even quieter. I can certainly live with your setup. This is great news.

as much as i love my true duals, i think this is pretty ignorant. the longtube, ory and stock catback is a nice setup for anyone who wants quiet. i would reccommend getting an SLP dual/dual instead though, real quiet but still flows great! or just get an electric cutout for the stock catback and you are set

This is exactly what I'm thinking of doing. I'm getting Dynamaxx LTs and ORY. It's my wife's car so I don't want LOUD and I actually think the stealth aspect is kinda cool. Anyone know (and I mean know, not speculation) how much HP this will cost? I've seen full exhaust systems giving 25ish RWHP so I have to think only 5RWHP at best from a catback? I'm definitely willing to leave some HP on the table (esp if it's only around 5) for a car that doesn't drone and isn't obnoxious.

i know there was a seat of the pants difference for me between cutout open and cutout closed when i was on the stock catback with longtubes and ory. its only like $40 for a manual cutout if you want to throw one on there while your at it for when you want to make max power for the track or something.

For me, the difference is .25+ seconds at a 1/4-mile track.

I put QTP Long-tube headers, QTP catalytic converters, y-pipe and manual cut-out on several years ago. From the cutout back is entirely stock.

Up until recentely I rarely ever ran with it capped so the time-loss didn't matter. However, I am currently considering switching from NE to Street class (which would require that I keep the cap on). Giving up a quarter of a second is more than I can tolerate so I am starting to look around and evaluate high-performance muffler options.

That would equate to a 25HP loss...just can't see a muffler being that restrictive. What mods do you have? Are you really modded? If so then maybe, but for a somewhat stock car again 25 HP is about what I've seen for a full exhaust, not just for a cutout gain/loss.

I was very suprised at how much I lost, too. Mods are are:
  • lid
  • most "free" mods
  • sub-frame connectors
  • BMR lower control arms
  • 12-bolt w/ 4.10 gears
  • underdrive pulleys
  • mild cam (224/228)
  • shift kit
  • LS6 Intake manifold
  • 3600 stall converter
  • cold air induction
  • ported throttle body
  • QTP Long-tube headers, y-pipe and cutout
  • dyno tuned
  • M/T ET Street tires
Depending on weather, I generally run around 11.70 to 11.80 (best is 11.54 at a 1/4 mile track and 7.41 running an 1/8-mile track)

Sounds like what I want to do with my car...man that is a huge diff. I wonder what kind of diff a catback would make. My bet is you'd lose almost that much either way. I think I'll look at the cutout option as well. Maybe an electric one just for grins.
