I would like to know which is the better choice for the best gas mileage? Now I know just because the RPM's are lower it doesn't always mean that one would get better gas mileage, I understand that if the motor is overworked at a high speed (60 mph) because of too high of a gear that it will become inefficient but Is the LS1 STRONG ENGOUGH (stock) to overcome that at 1595 RPM @ 60mph. as opposed to 1753 RPM @ 60mph.
I perfer to go with the 3.73 gears unless It just turns out that I am overworking the motor
thanks

You might loose 1mpg with 4.10's. I know people with 4.10's with auto's and they are turning way faster than 1500-1800 rpm. Don't waste your money on 3.73's and who cares about gas mileage. Drive it like you stole it.

I would be more worried about lugging the motor too much from the lower rpm driving, which will hurt your motor due to being now where near the power band. These motors are made to turn. GM put the lower gears strictly for EPA gas mileage mandates, nothing to do with wear and tear.
1500-2000 rpms might seem like an issue, but 30 years ago, most muscle cars were turning a lot more rpms than that just getting onto the freeway! And they only lasted about 50k miles before valve jobs and 100k miles before overhauls.

I have 3.73 gears in now and I do run 1600 RPM @ 60 Because.............I am turning 33" BFG's and I have a chance to install an entire ford 8.8 that already has 4.10 gears in it. The LS1 resides in my 1998 Jeep TJ.
So the question remains.........should I change out the 4.10's to 3.73's to match the 3.73's in the front Or Change out the 4.10's in the front to match the 4.10's in the ford 8.8 that is still sitting on the floor.
Sorry I dont drive a Trans Am or Camaro but I do have The 2001 (5.7L) LS1 installed.

4.10s are by no means "radical" on an M6. To me, it seems like it should have came with 4.10s from the factory. I can actually use 6th gear on the highway and not be breakign the speed limit. Assuming you don't flloor your gas all the time (which I have a real problem with!) your gas milage should not change. Hell, it might get better. I used to drive around in 5th a lot on the highway, now (with 4.10s) I go to 6th and the RPMs are lower...
