Can anyone tell what's wrong or maybe even help me fix my T/A tomorrow? I was planning on going on a trip this weekend, but now my car won't start. Here is the description of what's going on.

Copied from my other post:
Car won't start help please!!!!
My 2000 Trans Am 6speed won't start today. The key goes into the ignition fine and I can turn it back to power the accessories, but it will not move foward past the off position at all. Another thing I noticed is that the steering is not locked like it normally does, I can turn the steering wheel.

I tried starting in gear and in neutral, Moving the tilt, and turning the steering wheel a little. I also rolled the car foward a little and there was no change.

What could be causing this? Ignition problem? VATS?

TIA

vats wont physically lock anything on the column or ignition switch...
sounds like you need the entire ignition switch/column lock assembly...
i can tell you how to get around the ignition switch, but i dont really want to post it up in the open forum...

Try turning the wheel to see if it will lock. I would think it should. Maybe its just a fluke, where you have the ignition lock, and wheel in a certain position that it wont work.. Cant hurt to try.

I have this same problem on my Jeep. The Jeep came with a GM column from the factory (it's a 87). Pretty sure the column or lock assembly has to be replaced... Any other ideas (aside from hot-wiring your own car)?

Thanks. Thats what others have told me too. Can you get the parts diagram and part number for me by chance?

Seems like that is the only option.

You could probably get a whole steering column w/ keys from a parts car and swap the whole thing in.

Not if you swap out the lock cylinder, But you can always use a resistor or tune vats out.

Yeah, either take the matching BCM or bypass Vats with a resistor, either one is very easy.
