Default Got an AE AV12H woofer, pics

I finally got the AE AV12H D4 in today. This thing is pure beef. It looks pretty damn overbuilt and weighs a ton. It's 10 lbs heavier than the Fi Q I just put in a couple weeks ago. This is going into my 2001 Camaro SS in the trunk area in a 1.3 cu ft, after displacement, sealed box and being powered by an Mmats D1600.2 amp, wired for a 2ohm load. I currently have an Fi Q in there, set up this same way. The Fi sub rocks and ive been very pleased with it. It's only getting louder as it breaks in. However, I had originally ordered the AE and then in the meantime I bought the Fi. Now that the AE is here, i'm just gonna do a comparison and then sell off or hand down the loser.. lol

Both subs will be in the same box, mounted the same way, being powered by the same amp so it should be a pretty good comparison. I may go ported after this and then repeat the comparison. I'll toss this thing in my box either today on my lunch hour or after work and let you guys know what I think. Pics below.

In the box how it arrived

Cone

Beefy

Good comparison shot using AA batteries

Everything on the AE looked great, except for some cosmetic defects on the bottom. Im hoping these aren't signs of further, internal damage. I think it'll be fine though.

I'm surprised to see AE mentioned here. I've wanted to put like 4 of their IB15s in my basement for a while now.

I could be wrong but it just looks like a regular rectangular box.

You fail Google!

AV12-H - 4 ohm
Fs: 24Hz
Qms: 4.5
Vas: 69L
Cms: .22mm/N
Mms: 198g
Rms: 6.77kg/s
Xmax: 23mm
Sd: 471sqcm
Qes: ..26
Re: 2.7
Le: .28mH
Z: 4ohm
Bl: 17.6Tm
Pe: 1000W
Qts: .25
1W SPL: 87.7dB
2.83V: 92.4dB

23mm Xmax is pretty good, but not the best out there. AE sound quality is also good, but not the best out there.

The excursion on this sub looked nuts yesterday. I just swapped it out with my Fi Q and even though the Q has a rating of 27mm xmax, this subs seems to have alotmore excursion. Maybe it has something to do with how xmax is measured between the manufacturers?

What would you say is the best SQ sub around $250?

Keep in mind Xmax is not Xmech. Xmax is excursion over a (fairly) linear BL. Xmech is physical excursion before bad things happen.

Best SQ sub? Well, I could recommend you something like an Aurasound NS12-513 (technically a woofer, but it does well for subwoofer duties) but that doesn't have the output of the AV12 or the Q.

And I don't own an AV12, so I can't give you a solid recommendation. I would probably keep my Q.

I'm curious - which one did you eventually choose to keep, and why?

How do like the MMATS amp? I have a new distributor I picked up locally and they carry MMATS so I was going to start carrying them. Worth the effort?? Do you guys think there is a market for them here? I have heard good things about them and the amps seem pretty solid.
Nice sub/subs by the way!! I am going to be doing something like that in my next vehicle. Looking for a Typhoon to do a system in but have to sell the T/A first.

Good brand, but for amplifiers, only carry ones that can fill spots that your other lines don't have, IMO. They're not really worth the price. Most amps aren't. As long as you avoid brands like Pyramid and Pyle, you should be good.

I have access to Pyramid, Pyle, Lanzar, etc. I just don't use them at all and as you can see they are not on the site.
I will be adding some things here and there as they become available.
I did also pick up Hertz and Audison in very small quantity but that's fine because there just isn't alot of demend for them currently.
