Default High idle on new engine normal?

I started my new engine today and it was idling high, around 1300 rpm. It seemed to turn over slow. My battery sat for 2 months and was charged up today, Im thinking that might be the problem. Or could the computer just be learning? The catback went on right before startup it that helps. Any ideas?

He lets it sit for an hour running? Who is this guy?

No its not normal to idle anywhere other than where its programmed to idle at. Maybe for a minute or two while it gets warm, but nothing like 1,300rpm, thats crazy.

But how does he know 1 hour will do it? And if it is 1 hour, there's something really wrong with something.

You have to let it run for more than a few seconds though before the idle will start to settle down.

My idle is set at 975. It takes about 1 1/2 - 2 minutes before it settles down perfectly. But while I'm waiting it only idles up to about 1050 or maybe 1100. Then comes down gradually.

See what happens after 2 minutes of idling. If it comes down to where it should be maybe it'll work itself out after about 50 miles. You could do an idle relearn for the PCM too.

He doesnt know it was just a guess. I also read a thread saying the battery was replaced and the idle was normal again. The battery sat for 2 months and was "recharged" in an hour. Would that explain the hard cranking and the engine running fast to recharge it?

So what did it do after you fully charged the battery. Did it start up and idle ok?

Yes, a bad battery will obviously cause hard starts.....and a battery that is not fully charged will also cause a high idle at start.

But it does not take 1 hour to charge it, as long as the alternator is operating properly.
