Default Can LS6 Cam See Over 400 rwhp?

Friend of mine has '00 SS.

Engine mods: LS6 cam, LS6 intake, MTI airlid

Has SLP dual-dual exhaust and doesn't have headers or cut-out.

Before LS6 cam/LS6 intake install dyno'd 300 rwhp (has Moser 12 bolt/4.10 gears so it probably robbed a little HP) Best trap speed with 300 rwhp was 110 mph.

No dyno yet after cam/intake install - but best trap speed is now 114.6 mph

I'm guessing cam/intake added around 40 rwhp

Anyway, he wants to add some nice, ported heads and longtubes/y-pipe plus tuning. He wants a nice, stockish idle. Can he see over 400 rwhp with that type of setup? Has anyone else seen over 400 rwhp with an LS6 cam?

Thanks

With my mods in sig minus my TR224, YT Rockers and QTEC I made 376 rwhp @ 361 rwtq thru the SLP CME Exhaust which uses the Dual Dual muffler. That is with a Rapid Motorsports Dynotune. I would think thru a cutout with a set of heads and all the possible bolt ons you could possibly hit 400 rwhp.

Yup

Check out Speed Inc website and look at the ZO6 project. They have a breakdown of what they did to achieve 424rwhp/39X torque. Stock cam.

The traps seem to be right around what ZO6's trap so things seem on par.

Edit: With the new AFR heads coming out and if there as good as there being hyped up to be that is potential for more peak power and stronger mid range. I personally would hold off on heads, with the release date being so close, until people start posting results with the AFR's.

I think JPR went over 400HP with the LS6 cam. You might check with him. I think he had longtubes and a good set of heads.

I hope he sees this thread and posts in here. I tried to PM him, but his PMs are full.

With the new carb'd LS1 intake system, ported LS6 heads ~520flywheel has been observed with an LS6 cam on a factory short block. This works out to ~420rwhp to 440rwhp depending on driveline loss.

The carb intake set up will be out next year.

I also think it's very possible to make 400+rwhp with the LS6 cam in a fuel injected car with all the bolt on's and great heads, great tune etc.

Ls1speed took a Z06 and put 1.85s rockers and some decent springs on the car with an offroad exhaust, and some ported heads. The car made 425RWHP. Many Z06s are in the mid 390 RWHP with bolt ons.

The ZO6 cam setup with the rest said above would be the ultimate sleeper/reliable/streetable setup. Very sweet.

Over on the Vette site there are a couple 2002 and newer Z06's that have only bolt-ons that are in the high 39x rwhp range. I think the LS6 head is required or a well ported LS1 head(matched to LS6 cam) to make 400rwhp, but once the new LSX intake is out I am sure there will be many over 400.

A set of TEA 1.5's and a set of LT headers would be an interesting combo with an LS6 camshaft.

I'd like that too - with a quiet exhaust and a nice stockish idle.
