Default Trans choice for 67 Chevy II Swap - 4L60 or 80E?

Hey guys/gals,

I'm in the process of acquiring a LSX based motor/trans for my 67 chevy II and I think I'm set on going the auto route at the moment. My question is should I go with the 4L60 or 4L80E transmission? Given the light weight of the car, I was thinking I should be ok with a 4L60. However, if I can get away with running a close to stock 4L80 I would be fine with that as well. I'll likely be running a stock bottom end with LS6 heads and a "street" sized cam, heh. Nitrous is a strong possibility as well. I'm trying to stay somewhat budget minded as all of these mods ad up!

Here are some details on the car:
Currently running a TH350 w/ 3500 stall
9" rear narrowed - may swap for a 12 bolt
Checkered racing front clip
Fiberglass fenders and hood
Car at the moment is full tubbed - the trans tunnel has been modified so I've got LOTS of room to work with

Thanks for your help/recommendations!

Andrew

I personally am stepping up to a 4L80. You wont need alot of parts for it to hold power. It's life expectancy should far outweight the 4L60 too

Thanks, seems like the 80 is the way to go. What parts are you upgrading in yours? Going with a Vig or yank converter?

Bump for list of common mods for the 80E. Valve body and clutches seem to be common upgrades - what are you guys doing? Cost?
