Austin night life
We are heading to Austin in a week or two for a week end get away (anniversary type thing). We usually go to San Antonio but we decided to check out Austin this time.
Wanted to see the bats fly out of underpass (where ever that is).
Gonna check out Casinos el Camino (burgers, etc).
Gonna stay at the Hilton and check out 6th street.
Looking for some music venues that play rock rmusic. I know alot of different music fits into "rock" catagory but we are looking for music like Metallica, Pantera, etc. . . . . . . where would you guys go?
Gonna check out the Capital.
What else would you guys suggest?
Any bad *** BBQ or Mexican food we should try?

cool, thanks.
That thread has alot of good info. . . . . (we are staying at the same hotel and everything).
Pretty much answers everything other than where the bats are (please respond if anyone can answer) and a club that plays rock music (like Pantera, Metallica, etc).

the bats fly out from under the congress bridge over town lake (ladybird lake). park where you can near congress and barton springs and walk north on congress to the bridge. you can also watch from underneath the bridge on the east side of the street, there is a field next to a news office where you can sit and watch them fly out. be there a little early to get a good spot to sit, they come out at dusk.

Closest thing for Metalica Pantera type music I can think of is Room 710 on Red River in between 7th and 8th. Its a live music venue but they have the heaviest stuff around.

Baby A's
Baby Acapulco's on Barton Springs has great margaritas and atmosphere. There is an awesome BBQ place in Driftwood called the Salt Lick (BYOB). There's a group that paddles out for a twilight cruise in canoe's to watch the bats. Have fun.

NightTrain66, have a good time dude.
WS 666, I like the music more then the atmosphere, glowsticks dont bother me though. Was hoping to get DJM800 & CDJ1000 in the near future, but damn it so expensive. Going to be checking out PVD in 2 weeks.

Funny side story: The last time we went there we stopped at the gas station a couple miles before the place to get beer. Me and a buddy came in after most of our friends and more specifically a hispanic friend and his white gf had already made their purchases. While inside we asked the man at the counter if any of our friends that had just walked out had purchased ice, and he responded with "yeah, the mixed couple did". I think the word mixed was used 100 times by our group during the rest of the evening.

Lloyd, let me give you an advance welcome to "the ATX".
I get the impression you won't be ordering 3 large pizzas to the hotel parking lot like 2 weeks ago in KC.
I would invite you to check out some of our local street shenanigans, but I caught the part about "anniversary" etc. and don't think your better half wants to hang out in a parking lot with us.
I would suggest Hut's for burgers. It's right on 6th street, but a few blocks West of the main club/bar area.
As far as Mexican food, Jardin Corona is excellent and cheap. There is one about a mile from my house in NW Austin, but I think there might be a closer location to downtown.
BBQ: The best IMO is not in Austin. It's all the way out in the hill country in Llano and the place is called Coopers. A lot of friends love Smittys out in Lockhart too. However, Salt Lick is close to Austin in Driftwood, and you won't go wrong there either. If you need to stick to downtown, there is Ironworks. I think it's at Cesar Chavez and Red River.
Good luck and enjoy!

cool, thanks for the replies.
Yea, the pizza in the parking lot was a lil somthing to soak up some of the shots from the Fox n Hound.
I bought the first 2 rounds and then I had shots coming at me all night from Tony, Red Wing guy, etc.
Goldschlagers and Jagr-bombs actually mixed pretty well on top of all the other stuff.
