My car is pinging(confused)?
I just had my car Dyno'ed and the operator told me my car is pinging. He asked me if I use premium gas(91 octane in cali), and I told him yes. FWIW, my only mods are a TSP lid and Magnaflow catback. Why might my car be pinging? Is it normal for the LS1 to ping at all?
Thanks..
Thanks..

I've had issues with certain gas stations. It seems their fuel is not as much rated as should be. My friends car even "pinged" bad on Citgo 93. He doesn't get gas there anymore and no problems. It was only that one station though, I'm not saying ALL of them. I heard his car clattering when we were racing side by side that one time only.

...get this problem fixed immediatley - pinging can ruin an engine fast....
Tell the tuner to back off on the timing. You may want to increase the fuel/air ratio too....
Do not run cheap gas....is 91 the best gas you can buy in Commiefornia?
In the east 92/93 is widely available ...If 91 is all you can buy, tell Aaarnold you need better gas...or Commiefornia hot rodders' will terminate him in a recall election...

I don't want to discuss politics here but Replubican's normally do the opposite of what they "stand" for. In California the E.O. approval process and CARB went out of control under a Republican named Pete Wilson. There were actually some bills pushed by SEMA which were passed by a Democratic State Assembly and signed by a governor named Davis. I'm not sure why 92 changed to 91 but thats now the highest octane we can buy.
Back on subject, I also ping. I'm not sure if its bad gas from certain stations. I've used Techron fuel cleaner but haven't noticed a significant difference since. Only aftermarket part is K+N FIPK, tuning is stock. I've been told by a local shop that pinging is probably caused by oil consumption through the rings rather than bad fuel. I will try 10w30 rather than 5w30 this week to see if this helps.
One more thing: outside temperature doesn't seem to matter, it happens both at 70 or 90.
