Th350 vs 4l60e
I have a 4l60e in my car now it is stock. Im about to add a 3500 TCI and a big cooler? I hear alot of guys saying that the stock trans doesn't like TC, but i am going to try my luck anyway. On the other hand if it goes out I have a built 350 with shift kit and all the good tranny parts ready. Will i loose anything besides the 4l60e shifting it self? Don't they make a box that goes along with the 350 or 400 where you can program it to shift it self. If not then I will just put a shift light in the car and shift it when it lights up. Let me kno guys I kno some of you guys are running the 350 trans

If you dont mind the shifting yourself it's no big deal - there are ways to make it shift but its gonna cost you more money than its worth.you're going to lose a lot of MPG due to not having that extra gear - if you drive interestate at all I would say Dont do it unless you got mad cash!! You could always do a th350 and then put a gear vendors unit behind it and get better gas mileage while makin it a 6speed auto!! but thats gonna cost a couple grand - but it'd be unique. I had the th350 in the SS and went back to a 6speed for drivability issues - i'm not at the track enough to need a th350 - hell i havent even had it to the track yet so wtf was i thinking? ya know? if you race at the track all the time i'd say do it - if your on the streets more i'd stay 4l60e or go t56 if you got a sack at all!!! : )

I have a turbo 350 and I hate it. It came with the car when I got it. I have always had an overdrive in most of my cars. I like driving my car but can't when all I can do is 50-55 mph max. My buddy has his 4l60e in his firebird and and he just cruies right by. I like to drive on the interstate and be able to set the cruise on 80, can't do it with this trans. I plan on putting in a 4l80e eventually since I will be going 408 with a front mount turbo.

LIke they said if you don't drive it on the interestate to much its not to bad. I got tired of blowing 4l60E's up so I went the th-350 route. It shifts itself during normal driving I just have to shift it @ WOT. But sometimes I do miss my OD when I wanna cruise the car sucks I usually dont go faster than 55-60 mph.....lol

i have a built 4l60e with stock rear gears and a monster cam. I can't really shift into 4th until 60mph because of the size of the cam so I'm cruising in 3rd gear around town and on a couple of the 55mph freeways. I don't think it would be a huge difference with a th350 but at the same time it's nice to be able to chug along at 2000 revs in 4th.
edit* fwiw I also have a 3800 stall with lock-up

My Gear Venders Unit just arrived today!!
Can't wait to get it on the car and the car on the highway!!
You can also use the GV overdrive at the track so I'm planning on running a 150 shot of nitrous with my current converter/gear/tire combo and just go to OD when I run out of rpms on the nitrous passes.
