help mating t56 to lq4
alright, i'm at my wits end here. the clutch is on the 2003 lq4 just fine, but i cannot get the damn trans on. i get it within 1-1.5" of the bellhousing (bolted to the engine) and that it. i cant get it to slip into place. any ideas? seems like it should go right in, and i just cant get it to go. thanks,

is the clutch and everything aligned in the middle (where the shaft goes in)? We had an alignment tool that we used everytime before bolting up the trans on our racecar.
also, what clutch/pressureplate/flywheel are you running?

Are you using a new pilot bushing/bearing? I had a really rough time when I was trying to mate up my L33 and T56 after I installed the new pilot bearing. Took forever, but we finally decided to put a little lube on shaft and it worked right in.

the clutch assy is off an 01 camaro, same as trans. i did align it though. using a new bushing, just a bronze one though. thought maybe the bushing wasn't seated all the way? should the bushing be flush with the crank, though, right?

01+ comes with the shorter crank which is easier to bolt up to a T56, 4l604, etc etc. and the longer crank I think is easier to bolt up to a th400/350...correct me if im wrong..

Remove the clutch disc and pressure plate and try aligning the transmission again. If you find that you're able to get in aligned and installed, then you likely had an alignment issue with the clutch disc, in which case you'll want to use an alignment tool (essentially like a cut-off input shaft) when installing the clutch components.

Are you using a plastic alignment tool? I have done many transmission installs and the alignment tool they send with most clutch kits have a very small amount of play (its hit or miss really some people get good ones others get some play), this caused the transmission to give us problems on installs. I finally started using an old input shaft. I haven’t had another problem since using an input shaft as the alignment tool. It’s not economical if you only change a clutch once. But for a racing season and the occasional give a hand clutch install its priceless.
