I had the same thoughts as you but that extra weight is in the right place from what I have seen so far... right on the rear wheels at the back.

Fabbed rears should be the lightest

Talk to Eric at Midwest Chassis and performance. He could set up a Fab 9" that wieghts less then a 10 bolt. My set up is only 12lbs heavier then my factory 10 bolt. 31 Spline axles,4.11's,posi,powder coated,4 channel, the whole works. Also Eric's work and his crew are spectacular at what they do. And his customer service is just as increddible as his rear ends are.

$3500? I didn't spend near that for my MWC unit. I think I had $2500 in the entire setup with everything added.

Yup and that is a complete with center section and assembled. Just bolt it in! I ordered housing/axles and got my own center section. We ended up assembling it. If you buy the base you just swap them... 3 hours tops. For us it took about 7 hours so getting one complete for $2700 may not be so bad.

4.10 will be plenty if you got that kind of power and especialy spray.

Yes it is, and if you want a super light setup it will take drilled 33 spline axles and either a locker or spool. I paid under $3,000.00 installed for mine. If you add everything up against any other rearend out there he has the best bang for the buck.

just make sure u go with 33 spline or bigger if u didn't know already. i've seen a couple cars twist or break 31 spline axles with similar set ups to yours.

I looked into getting a "lighter then 10bolt" fab. 9 setup. It was up to $3450+ so for now my $ 2,100 S60 will stay. It wasn't worth it to me I could get a lot of power for that money and go faster then what saving 40-50 pounds would really do.

So will this fab 9'' be just as strong or stronger than a moser 9"? How much heavier is the moser 9" over the stock 10 bolt?

Chris05ssTruck

Moser units have been known to be noisy as hell, gear whine, tq. arm noise.
To many bad stories for me.
Fab 9's are about as strong as u can get for a 9'.

Fab 9's are as light as a 10 bolt, but as strong as a nine inch. You pay for what you get with rear-ends.

The Moser M9 is one strong rear, which is in my car shown below. Bob

my 12 bolt with drag brakes was around $2800, and was 25lbs lighter than stock 10 bolt with calipers & rotors...so probably around the same weight minus the brakes

the $3500 that Eric charges is also including the driveshaft and the bran new Torque Arm which isnt included with a Moser or any other rear you might get. if you price everything out, it'll end up costing about the same as, if not a little more, than a MWC rear. i paid $34xx for mine and it came complete, ready to install. 4 channel etc. with a strange center section but it was quite heavier than my 10bolt as we noticed from tryin to pick it up into the car but its been rock solid and quiet as can be. worth every penny for me thus far.
