Default How much boost for a stock engine

I have a '00 Trans Am and I am making 6 lbs of boost now on a basically stock block. Racetronix Fuel pump with hotwire kit, 42 lb. Injectors, Vortech supercharger with aftercooler, full exhaust, fast intake. The rest of the fuel system is stock and right now I am making about 470 rwhp. If I wanted to change out the pulley to a 2 3/4" that would put me up around 8 lbs. of boost. Is that too much on my motor?

Generally 5 to 7 is a nice psi for most FI setups. Buddy pushed his ati car to 8..kaboom on the stock ringlands. Only had it up there briefly.
Its playing with fire to run much boost on the stock hypercrap pistoned motor.

8#'s requires the same safe tune that 6#'s requires. At those levels, it isn't the boost that blows the motor, it's the tune. I have seen stock bottom ends accidentally overboosted (for a few seconds) to almost 20psi without any damage. They obviously wouldn't have handled this for very long, but it says a lot for what the parts can handle as long as detonation doesn't hammer them.

9 pounds of boost on a stock engine with a conservative tune will give you a reliable set up. Anything more aggressive and you start living on borrowed time.
