Default Why do i have to drain the fluid on a converter swap?

The directions Vig sent with my TC say to drain the fluid before dropping the tranny. Any reason? Do i have to? I'll have to drop the pan then put it right back on to be able to use my tranny jack. I JUST replaced the fluid to do a shift kit, I don't wanna pay another $50 for fluid if i don't have to.

Probably just to eliminate old fluid and contaminants in the system. If you have brand new fluid I see no reason.

Beautiful question. Let me explain why you want to drain your fluid first. When you lower the trans, the ever so slightest tip forward will send fluid gushing out all over the damn place. It comes from the dipstick tube hole. I did it a week ago and I made a big damn mess I wont be stupid enough to make that mistake again.

Or you could improvise and plug the hole as soon as the tube makes its way out. Also, it can come out of your tailshaft too with a tip backwards, I plugged it with an extra DS yoke that i had laying around.

Sounds like I should drop the pan to try and make the fluid go where I want it. I've had quite enough fluids on my floor (do not start an engine without an oil filter, ahem).

Thanks fellas.

If your pan dont have a drain plug, You can get one at any parts store and weld it in, Thats what i done,And it was well worth it.
