Unhappy Is my rearend done for?

Today on my home I heard a horrible clunking noise coming from my rearend. ive been really easy on it the past few weeks and have had no problems before today. i jacked the car up and spun the wheels with my hands with the car out of gear. i didnt hear anything. i checked the fluid and it was fine as well. but when i started the car with it jacked up and let out of the clutch it was a loud clunking noise. still drives and everything, just an horrible noise. going down the road it does it all the time unless im going down hill with it in gear. what is the problem or am i in the market for a new rear end? advise would be great.

If it is indeed the rear, yup, it's dead. Did you look at both U joints while you had it up?

trust me...U joints wouldnt make this noise.. this noise is a heavy clunking noise, not a clinking.

Yeah, it's done for. Mine did the same before the rear end started kicking out to the left, and then locked up.
