In case anyone cares, if you want to ever change the outer joint boot or the joint itself, you will need a plastic headed weighted hammer. Strike the inner race till it unseats off the splines. The FSM does not cover this procedure. It explains joint removal differently, probably for the V6 axles.

This has been driving me nuts for months. I had to buy a new axle from advance because the boot was leaking.
