MMT H/C C5 A4 goes 10.73 @ 125.95
Jeff and I went to Hallsville this afternoon to the Extreme Corvette Club Shootout. Seems like alot of guys were doing pretty good with new bests, even though the weather was not a killer DA like last Friday night. We saw temps around 51 to 53, but with a good pressure of 30.51 and dry air (25-35%).
Kumar loaned us his set of LS6 heads, Stage II modified by Sean at MMT for his Z06. We swapped our stock heads into Kumars Z and his heads came over to my car. Thanks to Sean and his crew(James and Sam) at MMT for working late Thur & Friday doing the swap.
We got to the track late around 1:00 and ran a quick run, killing the rev limiter as we thought we might. We still had the same tune as last week, so we were not surprised. We still ran a 10.93 @ 125.7, not bad for the noise when it shifted the 1-2! Then Murphy hit. Our battery (2 year old original) died during the first LS1Edit tune. We quickly went into Longview and bought a Optima battery at Auto Zone. A little costly, but neat looking.
We got back, put the battery in and did 1-2 shift point program change. Bamm, the 10.739 @ 125.95 mph. The 1/8 mile was a nice surprise also, with a 100.22 mph @ 6.827. The DA at this point was good (-750 feet) but rising, but not too bad. We were spoiled by the much better conditions last week.
We played around with shift points most of the next runs and ran a 10.764, 10.767, 10.804 and a couple of low 10.9s (during a bracket race run). Our best 1/8 mile mph was 100.61 and the best 60 ft. was 1.43 on the best run. We had three 1.4 60 fts. and the rest were 1.5 sec. On one run, I swear we lifted a front wheel.
Many thanks to Kumar for the loan of his heads and to Sean and his crew at MMT for working with us on this experiment. Unfortunately, we will have to eventually give the heads back to Kumar.
We now have to learn how to maximize this new combo. This will be fun!
BTW: Kumar's car still put out some good power, even with our stock LS1 heads on it. Sean knows his cams.....

We have not gone to Ennis to weigh it. It used to weigh 3375, but we have taken probably 50 lbs. out. The big weight savings have to be the CCW Drag Pack. This is unsprung weight savings.

About .13 so far. Keep in mind the air was not the same as the cam record run, and this is the first time out with the heads.
Still need to try some race gas and add more timing. We really didn't want to shoot ourselves in the foot trying all the tricks in the bag the first time out. I think it is not leaving as hard as it did before it really starts moving about 5-10 feet out. Jeff said it didn't whip his heads as much as before.
We read some post about heads giving you .5, that will not happen.
We hoped for .3 (in the same air) and maybe we'll will find it.
