Thanks guys! If they aren't 241 heads, what are the other ones that the '00's came with? Also, are 241's much better?

well 853's normally came on 00's. well thats what came on my t/a atleast. they switch to 241's in 01 i believe. and 241's are a little better than 853's. stock 243's are the best stock casting ls1/ls6

Debating which stock head is better is the same as debating which lid is better, very marginal differences between them.

853's only came on the 98's as they had the perimeter valve cover bolts. 99 and up came with the 241's with the center bolt valve covers. 241's flow a little better than the 853's. 98-99 had a larger cam than 01-02 and the 00's had the largest stock cam's. With an 2000 model engine you make the most horsepower with just bolt ons before going into the engine since it has the better heads and the larger cam.

What was the difference in the cam in the '00 rather than the '99?

hahaha good guesses but no. i dont know why you would even consider 2000 as the best year but here are the specifics

98-99 had 806 heads. known to be the worst flowing
late 99-00 had the 853 heads. better but not by much
01-02 had 241 heads and were the best flowing

cam specs
1997-2000
0.472/0.479, 202/210 on 117

2001 LS1
.500/0.500, 198/208 on 115.5LSA

the cams arent even worth talking about. the heads are the main differences. they also changed the exhaust manifold design in 2000 and 01-02 cars recieved the ls6 intake manifold from the factory. some late 02 cars received an ls6 block, no difference in power but its an irrellevant fact none the less

with full bolt ons on a stock cam, a good set of heads, and tuning people have been able to hit the 400whp mark. i plan on doing a stock cam build with the t/a whenever i get a budget together.
