^^^ my car is also a 99. im at 92k miles right now and my oil pump crapped on me. i cought it as soon as i started it in the morning, but i never drove it like that. 97-2000 LS1 motors had the problem with the oil pumps, they made a better oil pump in 2001

^lifters is a bog job. it should be done in a situation like this, but i just hope op knows that you need to pull the heads to do that. i would change the oil pump and see if it is still making the sound. but first of all check the oil pan. you might need a new motor

dude i have the same problem. you have weak lifters and cam and rocker arms. everytime i drive mine the oil pressure gauge is fine and then not 5 miles later it is at zero. and you might wanna check the oil pump cuz its not circulating barely any oil.

he does not have weak rocker arms. the problem is that the oil pump is not filling up the hydrolic lifters. or maybe he spun a couple of bearings and is not getting any oil pressure. it is really hard to tell unless he post an audio of the sound the motor is making. but if he drove the car wiht no oil pressure there is a very big possibility of him making some damage.

if you spun a rod bearing you will hear a loud tick. and the pase of the tick will increase as you up the engine rpm. it is kind of hard to explain the noise difference between faulty valvetrain and bottom end in words. i am sure if you type it in utube you will find some good examples
drain the oil and post up some pictures, so we can help you out.
